To give you a sense of how big a departure this year, the government doesn't do this for wanted criminals.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

Residents and emergency crews in towns along the rain-engorged Skagit River in western Washington state braced on Friday for potential levee failures while National Guard troops assisted in evacuations after days of severe flooding in the Pacific Northwest.

It can take as little as 4 inches of water to stall your car.
ROAD CLOSED MEANS THE ROAD IS CLOSED
We still have several highways around the region closed with water over the highway. We close roads for your safety and for the safety of crews working to reopen the roads.

Remember, it doesn't take much to go from a splash to a stall.

The Nooksack River is a strange one, because when it excessively floods, it doesn't all go into Bellingham Bay like the river typically does. Some of the water spills over into British Columbia, Canada, & ends up in the Fraser River. Rivers typically stick to one valley, but the rare one doesn't.
At least four rivers reached record high levels this week, especially as rainstorms surged on Thursday.

I honestly think that many people don't know what their public libraries offer besides books. I think that everyone should go on a public library treasure hunt in 2026. Go explore what your library systems offer at no cost to you. Report back to me :)

I'm not usually a big filigree person, but this caught my eye. I didn't like how it was finished at the end; I was going to add a moonstone drop & remove the Hamsa. Then I found the pendant, which I just got, & it works perfectly. It needs repairs, anyways, so I'll swap the clasp & the pendant then.

There are 10 days left to leave your comment on proposals to gut the Endangered Species Act.

Support for the ESA is over 80%, at a time when nothing gets 80%. It isn't perfect, but it's one of the best laws we have.

The bizarre take Jamelle’s replying to reminds me, oddly, of the lens through which a lot of right wingers seem to see racism: viz., as being centrally about passing judgment on a white person’s inner soul, making them feel shame, etc etc… and really none of that shit matters.
i also believe in building a better world for workers. i also believe that all people are entitled to respect and dignity and that there ought to be social sanction for those who openly degrade others. you call me a “n*gger” to my face and i am not going to smile and shake your hand.

Look all I want is

- The ability to buy articles piecemeal (like how you buy a single magazine or newspaper). Maybe 10 article chunks or something. I don't want a renew subscription to read 1 piece

- Ads to no be so obnoxious, either by pop-up, visual or audio, to make the article unreadable
So people don't want stuff behind a paywall (I get it!) but they also want to use ad blockers everywhere. How, exactly, do you expect the people writing the stuff you want to read to get paid? How does that work, in your mind? How is it sustainable, exactly? I'm just not sure, here.

Thursday was brutal for Trump on multiple fronts — Indiana, Letitia James, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, AP poll, et al. — but don’t sleep on the House passing the Protect America’s Workforce Act.

It’s the first time this year the Republican-led House has voted to undo a Trump executive order.
House Republicans made matters even worse for Trump on his day from hell
The president has suffered through plenty of awful days this year, but few could compete with Thursday's events.

In terms of US politics, Bush v. Gore is the defining event of the century. It set the template: a ruthless right that instinctively seeks power & doesn't give a shit about rule of law...and a bunch of hapless, feckless octogenarian Dems worried about the good opinion of centrist opinion columnists.
The 25th anniversary of Bush v Gore is today. The conspiracy mongering & corruption of the GOP has been brewing for a long time.

Roberts, Barrett and Kavanaugh were all on Bush's legal team, where they pushed unfounded legal theories. SC justices were already enmeshed in voter fraud myths.
Here's Sandra Day O'Connor endorsing News Max levels of voter fraud conspiracies in the 2000 election.
