I would submit that mass expulsions based on nationality, apparently often of people who have been residents long enough to be in receipt of pensions and who simply failed to submit paperwork, is not in line with the "European values" that measures like this are supposedly securing

"Only when they are no longer paid a pension do they realize that something is wrong," Maira Roze, the head of OCMA, told Latvian Television's "De facto" program. "Then they call. Why am I not being paid my pension? We tell them: You have no residence permit. They ask: Where is my residence permit? We say: You should comply with the law," she said.

Indeed this is functionally indistinguishable from the rhetoric of the MAGA movement which screams at Hispanic residents of the United States to "learn the language" and wishes to deport them in large numbers. It is illiberal, it is far-right
