Climate change, bird flu, AI, and Trump are our next existential crises.

I like to think my opinions are well-considered but I have blind spots and am open to new perspectives... Always.

Canadians are grappling with the very real and very frightening possibility that Mark Carney *played us like a fiddle* 👇🏼
At a time when the financial sector was under pressure to align with climate action, he correctly identified climate change posed a risk to investments & the energy transition posed a generational opportunity to profit. That is not the same as protecting people, communities and ecosystems from harm.

The AP didn’t used to be known for saucy headlines, but that whole Gulf of Mexico thing must have unleashed their AhFuckIt gene.

"Billionaires are a national disaster."
An interview with Chuck Collins, who gave away his half-a-million-dollar trust after being exposed to the violence caused by economic systems and has spent the past 40 years advocating for a more moral economy.

I’m not trying to be the fun police and I want us to be able to joke around and get along (I love Chris Wilson!)

But if we’re going to keep doing these events in the current political climate, the press might wanna be careful about what their laughter and cheers are normalizing
This would be a lot funnier if he showed any remorse for the journalist he disrespected in that apple-chewing moment (and the many others he’s attacked)

Without that, it just kinda feels like all the press and pundits cheering are saying “yeah that was fine, this is all a game”

For example, the room of Canada’s top journalists heartily laughing as Poilievre mocks the concept of “Queers for Palestine” as “crazy.”

Yikes.

AI prevents people from becoming smarter.
“Berg's point is that AI doesn't merely automate tasks — it automates the very processes through which people develop their skills.”
We can't really say this enough...

> Anastasia Berg [at UCL Irvine] said that new research — and what she's hearing directly from colleagues across various industries — shows that employees who heavily rely on AI are losing core skills at a startling rate.

James Cameron stayed at the hotel I worked at in OKC a few times a year because his wife is from the city and he was a gigantic prick every single time. Treated all the workers like shit, never tipped, etc.

I am of the opinion that how a person treats service workers tells you who they really are.

More than one glory hole has been called a "relief measure," I'd bet!
Let's talk about the GLORY HOLE of Lake Berryessa.

It's a flood relief measure connected to Monticello Dam which creates the lake in Napa County, California. When water levels exceed 440 ft (134 m), the water enters a 72 ft diameter circular spillway that drains it under the dam to Putah Creek.

Remember when Vinay Prasad was demanding impossibly high standards of evidence for things like masks and vaccines? But now he accepts the absolute lowest standards of evidence (VAERS observations) to attack vaccines. Interesting, no? It's almost like it was never about evidence.

Appalling. While these piggies gorge their fat - and filler-filled faces - children starve.
Trump entered the Mar-a-Lago ballroom for his Thanksgiving feast to the song “We Are the World,” a song used to raise money to help starving children.

Trump himself has cut aid to address global famine and has fought for the right to cut food stamps from American families.
