Political Scientist: studying democracy with experiments & data

Professor | University of Münster
Associate Professor | Aarhus University

To anyone who ever worked with municipality level data: this is the gif from hell...Just one needle in your stomach after another...
There are 10.990 municipalities in Germany.

From Berlin to the smallest municipality. All their names are shown in this map. The 50 largest cities’ names appear one after the other, after that they appear in chunks of increasing size.

That's pretty said and bad. I can't recall how often I've used these materials for various questions.
Just learned that Holger Döring retired from ParlGov in October.

If I'm not misreading his message, then this great resource will not be updated anymore 🖤

AI presents a fundamental threat to our ability to use polls to assess public opinion. Bad actors who are able to infiltrate panels can flip close election polls for less than the cost of a Starbucks coffee. Models will also infer and confirm hypotheses in experiments. Current quality checks fail

And that’s a common issue. Same in Europe.

Not as loud yet but party scholars needing to fight for the term „far right“ being used and not „hard right“ arguably an example.
The elevation of the US pundit class to the position of respected experts is a major contributing variable to the current shitshow that is US politics. By and large these people are midwit bloggers that occasionally have moderate statistical training.

I'm sorry to burst the bubble but the idea that Republican elites and/or base are a couple of pieces of evidence from the Epstein files away from the tipping point is a fantasy. We've been through this for 10 years now. It's not going to happen. It's not who they are.
