We use the new PtP dataset to compare cabinet members on background characteristics. Overall, politicians look pretty similar across genders. But women in the most prestigious positions conform closer to the typical politician than men, indicating that women must conform to make it to the top.

The sole focus on the EU combustion engine phase-out, which is 10 years away, is baffling because German cars have a demand problem today

Berlin worries a new EV subsidy scheme would be fiscally too expensive.

But demand-side support is a fiscal no-brainer here.

So happy to see this out! We caution against excessive optimism that the opposition will restore countries back to their democratic trajectories after electoral victory. Weakened institutions and the memory of repression makes it tempting to continue rather than buck the trend of autocratization.

Conventional wisdom says that, once in power, opposition parties will return backsliding countries to the democratic path. In reality, not only is this not true, but it is not uncommon for the opposition to adopt the autocratic habits of the regime they replaced.

Wenn natürlich die Mittelschicht das Backbone der AfD ist (meine Prediction) dann sind natürlich Wirtschaftspolitiken für ganz unten wenig hilfreich.

Wobei ich eh Tareks Leseart teile: Die AfDler*innen wollen aufgrund von Privilegien (und wenn es nur der Pass ist) abgesichert sein. Basta.
