Retired principal engineer. Who is quite willing to bore you with how communication systems work. And old computer history, at least the parts I was involved in.

Here to read what some of my favorite authors write.

Remember, these people wear masks and are often wearing generic camo with some velcroed on labelling you could probably get from Amazon.

They pop out of rental car and duplicate license plates.

We do not really know who they are.

An underappreciated point which I think got forgotten from older discourse is that one of the primary reasons ice needs to be shut down and abolished is that they are indistinguishable from random vigilantes.

And that is why now we must all act to protect people.

1,173 people were shot dead by "law enforcement" in the USA last year.

In the UK, it was 2.

The US population is 6x that of the UK, so go ahead and multiply the second figure by 6.

Then explain to me why this massively disproportionate rate of killing is so.

Armed men in plain clothes, faces covered, forcing their way into homes without warrants, terrorizing families and using children as bait before locking them up 1,000+ miles from home. This isn’t losing the message. Americans don’t want to live in a fascist police state.

Delicious to me

No American journalist does a better job of tracking Russian state media and Kremlin insiders than @juliadavisnews.bsky.social. In today's column, she describes Kremlin propagandists as absolutely giddy over Trump's destruction of Western alliances.

As someone who spent the last 15 years working with aging brains & dementia, I can't stop thinking about this. It is gerontocracy: leaders who are substantially older than most of the adult population. When did we accept this? The new generations can't show up because the old generations never left.

It might sound silly, but I mean it: The easiest and most potent way for Europe to hurt Trump this year is to once again use its cultural soft power and to threaten a boycott of the World Cup. It would become a completely meaningless event and would hurt him where he is most vulnerable - his vanity.

There isn't any long term benefit -- AI is generally MORE expensive than human employees; the real cost is still being eaten by the developers of AI until they think they have the market cornered.

Once businesses have to pay the *real* cost, they'll be desperate to get their human employees back.

Is this meant to distract from the Epstein files? Probably not by itself, but it clearly plays a role. For someone who claims innocence, the president and his allies work remarkably hard to keep those records from seeing the light of day.

German Jews were citizens of Germany at the start of 1933. By the end of 1933, the Nazis had
removed citizenship from naturalized citizen Jews.

In 1935, all German Jews were fully stripped of their German citizenship.

Citizenship under dictatorships is contingent for targeted minorities.
