TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there.

Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.

I wonder if there was a bill that Congress voted on in 2021-2022 that would have banned gerrymandering in every state.

Or another one in 2019.

Or a landmark Supreme Court case seeking to end it in 2019.

Now to find out how every Republican voted on each of tho—oh, they were unanimously opposed

Being among the first interrogated and ultimately fired by DOGE, I certainly felt we were facing the business end of a right-wing conspiracy theory 🧵
DOGE was not a money-saving effort. It was an effort to chase down and prove right-wing conspiracy theories. They went after USAID to prove conspiracy theories about foreign aid. Then they went after SSA to, again, pursue conspiracy theories about Dems paying "illegals" to vote. 1/2
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

The Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act would reverberate far beyond Congress.

It would effectively end democracy for many local govts in the South & even other regions.

At the state level, white Republicans could gerrymander legislative supermajorities in LA, MS, SC, & maybe even GA or TX
NEW: You've heard SCOTUS could soon upend the balance in power in Congress by gutting the VRA. But that'd also be a huge blow to Black voting power in *local* governments.

In west Tennessee, Black residents just won a new county map this year—but those gains now look very fragile.

Great reporting:
Black Residents in West Tennessee Just Won Fairer Districts. Now Comes SCOTUS. - Bolts
The Supreme Court may further erode the Voting Rights Act in an upcoming decision. Beyond affecting Congress, that would reverberate across local governments nationwide.
