Intro post. I'm a single dad, I live on a pension and I'm struggling. I don't care how worthy your cause is, I won't be giving $ to anything, so don't ask. I need to feed my kid.

"at least Americans haven't been mass burning books." Actually. They have been. Some academic papers only existed as digital files, and republicans have been ordered the deletion of academic papers about Climate Change and Gender Sciences. Deleting a digital academic paper is burning books.

AI becoming self-aware and wiping us out is a very remote possibility.

Nuclear war wiping us out is a possibility.

Climate change is a certainty, it's happening now and it's accelarating. The warming trajectory we are on now is an extinction one, for humans and for a lot of other life.

this, fyi, is why we keep insisting that you can care about more than one thing.

Fight transphobia.

Don't stop fighting climate change.

Abolish ICE.

Be antiracist.

Support your community.

Demand safety for Palestinians.

We can and must fight for all of it.
sovereignbeast.bsky.social
It's pretty wild to me that investigators have uncovered that anti-trans campaigns are largely funded by the fossil fuel industry, and that the presumed motivations are pretty directly to redirect the public conversation away from climate change... and that this isn't bigger news.

"OpenAI wants to secure $500bn to build a 10-gigawatt complex, under construction in Texas, by the end of this year."

Some idiot is going to claim that OpenAI are going to solve climate change. When they ARE climate change. Half a trillion to microwave the Earth. All to ram AI down our throats.

If we do not acknowledge and address climate change we are buggered as a species. Forget house prices, Ukraine, Gaza, and any other man made political distraction, climate change will kill us, and our children. Wake up.
daveb23.bsky.social
Ok, how much excess heat has been absorbed by the oceans and how do you propose to get rid of it?

It will have an effect on climate for hundreds if not thousands of years.

I think there's no way we fix this, but that we have to try everything we can, because we're not alone on this planet.

Anybody worried about this? Probably not, in fact most won't even bother to read about it. 1st worlders will go on with their climate change causing lives while 3rd worlders will continue trying to survive. Meanwhile the habitability of Earth collapses around us. abcnews.go.com/Internationa...

AI guys: AI is going to gain sentience and kill us all
Everyone else: AI is accelerating climate change and that's going to kill us all

Literally why is anyone working on AI? Every single person I've talked to thinks it's gonna kill us, some people are just dumb about their reasoning

Many Nationals politicians are still denying that Climate Change exists. Words matter, the truth matters. From now on I will be using the term "Fossil Fuel Accelerated Climate Change" or FFACC. Why? Because those fossil fuel deniers, whether paid or just plain stupid, need to know the truth. 😡

"Large food corporations need to be phased out to make global food systems sustainable."

That's a quote from the article. Can't see it happening this side of collapse, myself; but here's hoping.

If I see you posting AI slop, it's an instant block. Even if you think it's cute or says a lot about society. If you are purporting that some AI slop is real news, I will report you for misinformation, and then block you. Sloppers should be marginalised.

If you accidentally post AI slop and are told “hey that’s AI” the correct answer is to go “aw shit I didn’t know” and delete it. Not “oh oops oh well, watcha gonna do” and keep it up because it’s giving you engagement. Stop it.

EVERY human deserves a clean bed, meal, opportunity to learn, work, heal. Economies ONLY truly thrive when the weakest have purpose, creativity, opportunity. Majority are hopeless, inviting fascism. This is not rocket science. This is economics mixed with basic ethics. Insanity this is debated

Post WWII capitalism has locked us in a hellscape where we can't call out fascism because it'd interfere with investment portfolios and multi year strategies. Just pretend any of this shit is normal.

I'm in the UK. I've literally had Japanese directors laugh in my face about Brexit as I make what meagre efforts I can to reject that ideology. America goes full on neighbours hiding neighbours Nazi and Japan still repeatedly pushes the boat out for it purely due to its wealth.
