We use sound methods to explore how young children make sense in museum spaces. We draw from Deleuze and Guattari's concept of the refrain to explore how rhythmic, fragile, and emplaced "little tunes" unfold during young children’s explorations of museum spaces.

This was such a wonderful project to be a part of, thinking and writing with colleagues in the university and in practice.

What the study shows is that white, well-off, gays and lesbians in mid-to-senior roles in workplaces that self-select for a hate group's mailing list do not like being included under the LGBT+ banner. Shocking!

I don't have to run a survey to know everybody else doesn't like them, either!

Meanwhile, Jon Pertwee had terrible back pain because of his time on the show (he writes about it in his autobiography "I am the Doctor").

Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi both had to have the same knee surgery because of the constant running and pivoting towards the camera.

The next thing they always say is "imagine him meeting the Daleks again for the first time" as if the problem with the Dalek stories is the Doctor's overfamiliarity with them (rather than ours).

Yeah this is going to thoroughly doink staff on fixed-term contracts. Why give anyone a permanent job when you can just employ them for a day a week six years ago and still submit their papers?

A good guide to the next great university scandal: they will be able to submit big groups of researchers to the 2029 Research Excellence Framework, get millions of your money, then sack all the staff and pocket their nice yearly income from you the taxpayer until c2036/37. wonkhe.com/blogs/portab...
Portability within REF remains key to fairness
Maria Delgado, Nandini Das, and Miles Padgett warn that separating research outputs from the researchers who created them in REF 2029 would undermine the integrity of the whole research environment

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Unless you seek it out, most professors don't learn how to teach. It's not part of the job requirements. The idea is that you're an expert in your field and that's Enough.

Egyptologists don’t know every tiny detail of the ca. 5000 yrs of ancient Egypt. That’s why we have specializations! Language, art, archaeology, bioarchaeology, etc.

I mostly study New Kingdom period art, specifically the Amarna period

Dr Who is INFECTIOUS. It is in on the joke of how utterly silly it is. It gets you with big feels, even while being utterly, knowingly silly. It's for children but scares adults. It costs a fortune but looks cheap. The Doctor always wins or loses by being clever, kind or sorry, or because love.

“No doubt the clarity of its conclusion will be welcomed by some, but reducing a complex subject to an overly simple one is not what is needed. Their Lordships would have benefited from a refresher course on sex and gender differentiation.”

The key question in this short but damning (of the Supreme Court) letter by Emeritus Professor of neuroscience at Cambridge Uni is this;

“Why should genitals supersede brains?”

The “Supreme” Court has decided our bodies matter more than our souls, our minds.

It is an extreme dehumanization.
The UK Supreme Court's ruling and the rights of transgender people
On April 16, 2025, the UK Supreme Court ruled that only those who are what it terms as biologically female can be defined as women.1 This has wide implications for medicine as well as for people who a...

Such a BRILLIANT episode. I love it when you have no idea what you're going to get each week. Camp Star Wars, Alien, evil Roger Robert, Die Hard in space,... great season

Grumpy Doctor Who fans calling him riding a confetti cannon across interstellar space "camp trash" as if that's not literally my favourite type of Doctor Who story.
davidbenshannon.bsky.social
Using a confetti cannon to fly through space is only the third most ridiculous method the Doctor's used so far. Doctor 5 used a cricket ball, and Doctor 3 used his own oxygen supply.
