Feds couldn’t snap their fingers and fix all of transit, but they could fix a lot of it.
We’re working hard in the Bay Area to invest in transit — to strengthen & modernize it & improve service, safety & cleanliness.

We need to take this fight national. The US severely under-invests in transit & Trump is making it worse. The U.S. should lead the world on rail & other transit, not lag.

Hey building nerds, when do double stair requirements kick in?

I thought it was above three floors, but maybe it's actually anything above two units?

I absolutely love the @berkeleyscanner.com, we are beyond lucky to have that kind of knowledgable, detailed reporting on public safety in our community. Most places don't have that.

But man that comment section...there are some wild things that happen in that comment section...

You really don’t have to hand it to him but the plus side here is that the building was probably rotting and in desperate need for major renovation anyway, and once we return to constitutional government they’ll be able to rebuild it with modern wiring and insulation and stuff.
The East Wing is the perfect metaphor for this whole presidency and its effect on the nation and democracy.

At a certain point policy makers need to say “this is for us to decide, not you. It goes into effect in thee years. Figure out a code you can live with but single stair is not negotiable.”

Such an just and beautiful way to end Cuomo's political career. May all corrupt creepy scumbags face similar ends.
What I don't have in experience, I make up for in integrity.

And what Andrew Cuomo lacks in integrity, he could never make up for with experience.

i do firmly believe in the end, we will win, but the dread and the loss of watching this nightmare unfold is really something. These assholes are undermining everything we've taken for granted as a democratic and open society (however imperfect) with such vile hubris

I appreciate that Medicare is a better deal in a lot of ways, but there’s a reason people choose MA, and that’s because it’s a lot easier to fight with your insurance company X years down the road than it is to come up with $500 or whatever dollars a month you need for traditional Medicare today.
You may have seen a lot of ads for “Medicare Advantage,” as open enrollment begins this year.

What I don’t get is, I mean yes it seems like there is sketchy and dangerous financing here, but aren’t we getting data centers out of it? Like when the bubble pops we’ll be left with massive compute and networking and energy infrastructure that will be getting sold at dirt cheap prices.
Great episode of the Organized Money podcast out today.
We talk to Herb Greenberg, a financial journalist and stock analyst, about the AI bubble, and why the financing is looking more like pre-financial crisis of 2008 rather than late-90s dot-com. Essential stuff.
The AI Bubble: More Subprime Than Dot Com
Veteran Wall Street reporter Herb Greenberg joins to discuss the AI bubble and the history of hyper-inflated markets.

4 year old saw a version of this meme so I had to explain it to her, so I made up an example she could relate to, and it was, to put it mildly, a hit and so now you all get to share in it too

Ok so set aside this dumbass tacky BS and take a look at what Deuteronomy 21 actually says and wow it is still pretty messed up!
A White Christian nationalist pastor argued recently on a right-wing podcast that the Bible--specifically Deuteronomy 21, about how a father must bring his rebellious son to the town square to be stoned--justifies state violence against Black boys and young men.

If we get to impeach him in ‘27, we should do dozens if not hundreds of individual articles - make Senate Republicans ratify every single specific piece of corruption and abuse of power.
Well that's not how appropriations work at all

I sympathize with people's complaints in this article, but folks don't understand that the homelessness problem is far beyond the city's capacity to address - the whole thing is propped up by federal money, and it is very likely going to get a lot worse.

Pretty incredible own goal by liberal institutions and many Democratic electeds to crush the exact type of protests in 2024 that would’ve been the most effective way to slow or stop ICE incursions into American cities in 2025

A one year extension is probably the stupidest policy democrats could possibly support. Absolutely ridiculous.
Reality check: There is a bipartisan House bill to extend the ACA tax credits for one year—and just 14 Republicans have signed on. 14 out of 219, less than 7%.

The vast majority of House Republicans want this to expire, or at least don’t want to be associated with an extension.

IIRC there are 1600 households using Section 8 vouchers in Berkeley. Many long-term residents, many elderly and disabled.
New: four million people could be forced to leave public housing and other federally assisted housing under new plans from the Trump administration, according to experts who reviewed drafts of two unpublished rules obtained by @propublica.org.
