Scottish Government has been confirmed as high investment grade, by two global credit rating agencies.

This matches the UK and better than Spain, Italy and Japan.

First Minister John Swinney will announce next steps for our government’s Bonds programme tomorrow.

If the government chooses to keep the 2 child limit and spend money on vouchers and parenting programmes instead, child poverty will rise and this will be a conscious and deliberate political choice in defiance of all the evidence
Scrapping the cap entirely is both good policy *and* good politics.

Half measures will "save" some money short-term, but will piss *everybody* off and still leave very large numbers of children suffering from a policy designed to make them poorer.

The thread about the Gilmore Place Public School; the rise, fall and renaissance of Darroch
Instalment seven of the “Lost Board Schools of Edinburgh” series takes us to Gilmore Place Public School; a name likely to draw blank looks from most. That's not unsurprising as it's a building well hidden from passing view and a moniker that lasted but twenty years. But mention Darroch School and you will get a flicker of recognition from a certain generation of Edinburgher. Its story is not a simple one, in its time it has been home to over ten different schools! But its saga offers us a neat case study of the ebb and flow of secondary education in the city. It is also a happy story as it has bucked the trend of many of its contemporaries and avoided the fate of conversion into private flats. Instead it is now enjoying a well-earned educational and cultural renaissance.

At my Granny’s funeral many years ago I ask ‘Aunty Ann’ how we were actually related.

She explained that we weren’t related by blood, instead we were ‘related by drink’ as she was an old buddy of my Gran.
My kids refer to their dad's cousin as their uncle. Not all his cousins, obviously, one in particular who is close to their dad. Everyone does this. It's ridiculous to pretend otherwise.
This is such a non-issue! "Father's cousin" is a lot of syllables and if that's a person you see often since childhood, of course you're going to call them auntie.

There's a dogwhistle here too, of course.
