A Texas official said “there wasn’t a lot of time” to alert camps of the flood risk. But AccuWeather’s chief meteorologist said warnings gave “plenty of time to evacuate people to higher ground.”

“The question is, Why did that not happen?” he said.

Some Texas Officials Didn’t Respond to Flood Alerts, Echoing the Tragedies of Hurricane Helene
Weather warnings predicted devastation from both the Texas floods and Hurricane Helene. But in both disasters, people were left in harm’s way.

Project 2025 plans to break up and reduce the components of NOAA. But the services NOAA provides, every citizen uses every day.

I am really glad—truly—that more outlets are covering FEMA’s unacceptable response in Texas. But for my original reporting to receive ZERO acknowledgement (especially when I know many of these outlets originally declined to cover this story) is simply maddening. I would literally never do that.

I like this idea. And if it takes off, Trump is so vain, he’ll probably start using it himself.
Let's go a step further than @schumer.senate.gov did in deleting the words "one big beautiful bill" from the Republican budget monstrosity. Let's all agree to call it, and all its ugly consequences, Trumpcare. www.offmessage.net/p/try-callin...

“According to sources within FEMA, “barely any staff” have been deployed, and the Acting Administrator David Richardson “is nowhere to be found.” Per one source, “if this is how they are going to do a major hurricane response, people are fucked.”
"Despite Trump officially activating FEMA on Sunday, FEMA has just 86 total staff deployed at this point [to Texas], according to figures shared with staff Monday evening...In the past it would normally be in the several hundreds at this point in the disaster recovery process."

Less than a year ago @nytimes.com was sent hacked data about Trump's vetting of JD Vance, which they refused to publish.

But Mamdami's hacked college application gets an exception because of interest from random online Nazis and Chris Rufo, the NYTimes' de facto executive editor.
Arguably if NYT wanted to get ahead they could have written that story, about Nazis trying to start a race controversy with hacked data. But as it turns out, they wanted to be the Nazis.

And this year, the Texas Legislature didn’t pass a bill to help fund outdoor sirens.

One minor silver lining to a very bad situation is that you have Dem politicians talk about administrative burdens in clear and understandable ways. Not the case in the Clinton era, and not bowing down deservingness tropes.
