The utopian SF that portrayed the future as full of leisure due to automation and technology was a LOT more socialist than was readily apparent at the time.

Which of course is why we have the Torment Nexus vision being realized instead.

It's so wild that, for decades, automation in the modern imaginary was this force to liberate us from manual labor and free us up to pursue art and poetry and other creative fields. And now our "futurists" are telling us the *computers* will be creative and *we* will toil in mines and factories?

This year's Batman annual still remembers who the heroes and villains are, even if everyone else has forgotten

Both sides of a conflict are calling each other evil and corrupt, rendering me, a humble journalist, helpless to discern the truth. Best I can do is let you know that both sides are in fact saying those things. Hope this helps

absolutely HAS TO converse with someone in English, she's decently fine with it, it's all good, she's not anywhere NEARLY as bad in English as she thinks she is lol This is our thing, everyone is bad at English but everyone is simultaneously also good at English
It's a national thing, Finnish people in general are just always embarrassed about their English and thinking They Can't Talk It when in fact THEY CAN. Like, I've this co-worker who always asks me to talk to the English speaking costumers 'cause "idk, I don't understand, I can't talk", but when she
I am So Fucking Sorry for linking a yt short, but ALSO lmfao this is so fucking truueee. The vid is HEAVILY exaggerated, but like, every Finnish person'll go, "I am so sorry for my bad English 😔" but most often it's not BAD, it's just English with a Finnish accent

idk where I'm going anymore with this thread, I just wanted to say, COBWEB, it's a pretty decent horror movie, I rec 😃👍
SPOILERS

...going off topic to personal matters, BACK TO THE TOPIC, and the topic is that they had this girl in the movie who was walking ALL WRONG, this fucking, fast, crab like SKITTERING, AND THAT WAS ALMOST TOO SCARY TO ME, I was Proper Scared, that shit was creepyyyyy 😭😭😭
SPOILERS + RL SUICIDE

my father once again told the story of how my mother's father's mother had killed herself in the bathroom by taking rat poison. [There's seriously so, so many stories in the history of our family ending with lines, like, "he hanged himself in the barn, his brother found him].)
SPOILERS

It adds that little "I fucking knew it!" to it.

(Also, previously in the day [what are the chances of this coincidence???] me and my father had talked about family things and about family members dead and gone, and +
SPOILERS

Ten seconds in to the soup dinner scene, I KNEW what was going to happen 😅 Is it better to know beforehand or to be ~surprised~? idk, both is good. Sometimes just ~knowing~ 'it's gonna go down like that' makes you more eager to see it go down the way you know it's gonna go down, you know?
SPOILERS

(If you've seen the movie and are wondering, "what are you talking about???" I AM talking about the phone call(s) that happened in the kid's parents' bedroom. When she called back and said what she said, I got fucking ANGRY by how much she clearly does-not-care about the kid's wellbeing)
SPOILERS

that the 'horror story about a kid with a mental illness' angle was played out all that well in the end, and I absolutely disliked the kid's Good Hearted substitute teacher solely 'cause NO ONE who actually genuinely was worried about a child and and their home life would act as she did. +
SPOILERS

the young girl tells him that the only way to set her free from inside the walls is by moving the heavy grandfather clock in his parents bedroom, that there's a secret doorway behind it....

Lots of stuff happens in the last act that doesn't fit in with this, so I don't think +
SPOILERS

girl's voice from inside the walls only AFTER his parents mention that years ago a girl living in the neighbourhood went missing on Halloween....The girl's voice encourages him to harm someone....After he learns that behind the kitchen fridge, there's secret doorway to a secret basement, +
IMMEDIATELY SOLD lol creepy-sounds-from-inside-the-walls is classically scary shit and I'm ALL for classically scary shit.

SPOILERS

But it was very easy to make it that this was about the kid suffering from a mental illness: He starts hearing, not only the knocking, but also a young +
I watched COBWEB (2023) the other day. I liked it! Never heard of it before, picked it up 'cause the summary said that a kid hears knocking from inside his bedroom walls, the parents don't believe him BUT, it just might be that the parents are harboring a dark secret.... 👁️
SPOILERS

There probably were some good bits too during that last third, idk, I just Completely lost the vibes and my taste for the whole movie after that fucking "The Inquisition didn't happen 'cause this whole fucking system is bad, we are not to blame, it's the DEMONS who made it happen"
SPOILERS

And that TOTALLY ruined All Of The Vibes that I had had before that.

You are, even this silly-ass fictional sense, moving the blame AWAY from the Catholic church? "Yes, Spanish Inquisition BAD, but it was NOT THE WORK OF THE CATHOLICS, it was the DEMONS!" lol fuck the right off +
SPOILERS

Russell figures out that the Spanish Inquisition got started 'cause some man of (a Christian) God possessed by a demon convinced queen Isabella into it, so WHATEVER happened after that demon-queen convo (and what happened was the Inquisition) was the WORK OF SATAN. +
