I think a lot about the chance we had at the start of COVID to finally become a more compassionate, collectivist nation, and how profoundly we were failed not only by the sociopathic greed of the ruling class but by each other.

It doesn’t mean we won’t get there, but the lost opportunity haunts me.
Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

You in fact can't talk about the history of the labor movement without talking about multi-ethnic coalitions. The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union was initially composed of Jewish and Italian immigrants, but later grew to Black, Puerto Rican, Chinese, and Filipino workers.

Do some of you remember how I said a few months ago that the fascists aren't having fun? They still aren't, lol.

Their parties [when they have them] SUCK.

They make bad art.

They aren't funny.

They CRAVE Leftist popular culture & resent the fact that they do.

They aren't actually having fun

there are going to be a lot of stories in the next couple weeks about the generosity of ordinary people in helping their fellow Americans and all of them will be wonderful and none of them should be necessary

we don’t have to have a government this cruel and capricious

don't have a lot left to say about the Nazi tat discourse other than the general observation that when some say they oppose "moralism" they mean they oppose self-indulgent or otherwise unprincipled appeals to faux-morality and when others say they oppose "moralism" they mean they oppose morals

In a lot of places when a cyclist is killed by a car an all white "ghost bike" is left there marking the spot; a memorial. Do we need to start placing signs with people's names and faces exactly where they were 'disappeared' from? As a continuous reminder to make sure that people don't forget.

Why is it that every disappeared US citizen is not front page news? At the very least we should have a little box with a count of the number of citizens who have been taken away and are not locatable and a link to a story with photos & min-bios, just as we used to do with military casually figures.
In Portland, Oregon, masked ICE GOONS abducted and vanished US citizen Gonzalo Catalan last week. Tragically, his family remains unaware of his whereabouts and has not received any communication from him as of today.

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

A lot of people warned for years that the combination of inaccuracy and state oppression made biometric scanning and facial recognition incredibly dangerous. I pitched sooooo many stories about this and was often told “but there are no victims yet.”

The intentional pivot to let grandma die, and its accompanying corporate AstroTurf, all so the wealthy could live without disruption to their money flows, was a test for Americans, and we were propagandized into handing over our collective humanity while opening the door to fascism fully.

The difference in barbarism between a suicide bombing and an airstrike is what exactly?

Turns out the two greatest superpowers one can have in politics are independent wealth and a lack of humility or shame. Sucks that electorates broadly view scandals as tests of resolve more than anything else.

That is incredible. As bad as you think the state of journalism is in this moment, it's worse. It's much much worse.

Another illegal US maritime strike—again in the Pacific.

Against a vessel allegedly operated by an unspecified "designated terrorist organization."

Four reported fatalities—dubbed w/o ID or evidence "narco-terrorists."

There's a word for premeditated killings outside of armed conflict.
I sure would love to support a journalists cooperative instead of a handful of journalist on their own.

I had to sit down. I couldn't stop shaking and crying. Other women came up to me after and asked to hug me. I think they felt traumatized too. The abuse and horror these men inflicted on that woman extended to everyone watching it. Ostentatious shows of power to make everyone feel disempowered.

I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

I can hear myself saying "Have mercy! She's a human being!" I was scarcely aware that I was speaking. After they dragged her away, I shouted into the airport something like, "This is cruelty! How can we stand this?" Whatever I said, it tore out of me. And I was immediately afraid I'd be arrested too

Like I don't really blame voters for not knowing that the ways laws get made is like "a congressional committee attaches it to a must-pass spending bill after the senate parliamentarian makes a ruling saying it won't affect the 10 year budget window." It's not supposed to work like that!

People make a lot of jokes about voters thinking there's a big dial that controls gas prices in the oval office, but I think "low info voters have no idea what the government actually does" goes a lot deeper than that and they blame whoever is President for anything that annoys them.

I think a lot of politicians and political reporters think "low info voter" is like someone who isn't following congressional budget negotiations when actual low-info voters are like "guy who thinks the president appoints the NFL commissioner and are mad at him for suspending a player on their team"
