I've played some of The Outer Worlds 2 and, yeah, that's what I wanted Starfield to be.
It is gloomy and cool, so I fixed a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup for lunch. Because I'm secretly 5 years old.

Look I have loved Tolkien for ages too but I learned a long time ago that if you are talking about the Silmarillion you are losing
Yeah. I mean, it looks like it does its things really well these days, and I'm really impressed the developers stuck with it after launch, it just isn't what I'm looking for.
Basically space would just be the window dressing for my space games
From what I know of No Man's Sky, probably not. Space exploration isn't what I'm looking for in my space games.
I'm in it for the stories, not going to procedurally generated planets to mine more generic resources (looking at you again, Starfield base mechanics)
I think last time I tried to play it I ended up giving up after realizing I launched the game after work, and 3 hours later still hadn't moved from that spot because my phone was more interesting than the game. It was all just so boring!
The quests on New Atlantis especially were awful.
Closed the game, uninstalled it again.
Nothing makes me hate an RPG more than the illusion of choice. If I have to agree to the quest, don't give me a dialogue option other than "yes" or "yes but grumpy".
They offer me citizenship, which is not something I care about, so I say I'll think about it.

They say okay.

But then.... You can't leave the office. The elevator that lets you leave doesn't open.
You cannot leave until you agree to continue the sidequest (I think it is sidequest?)
Go back to the council and suddenly they agree the monster are a problem and say they'll support me getting to info I need, but I need to go to the other two factions to get their approval.
I am what's in it for me to go ask, because I remember being pretty mercenary as the character.
And then this is where they lost me (again)
Go flight the monster.
The random NPCs give okay voice acting and okay animations in dialogue, but certainly not impressive.
The gunplay is fine, but boring. Shoot lots of bullets at high health monster that roars at you a lot.
Serviceable, but certainly not that engaging
I went to another quest. Go talk to the council about the terror monsters.
Just as they're saying they don't think the monsters are a big deal, an alarm, the monsters are attacking and the council has no one qualified to handle them except you, even on New Atlantis.
Shocking
Loaded and tried again in case it was bugged, still nothing.
Okay, annoying, but I'm not going to blame the game because I don't remember how to dock my ship with another ship, or radio them or whatever.
But it did really remind me how shitty the spaceship controls are.
But, anyway.
Oh boy that didn't last long at all.

Loaded my old save so I wouldn't have to redo the tutorial. I selected a mission that wanted me to go to a specific ship to talk to someone.

Got in my ship and fast traveled there.
... And couldn't do anything. I couldn't interact with the ship or dock

A female sex demon is called a succubus. A male sex demon is called an incubus. A non-binary sex demon is called an omnibus.
He needs to be utterly mocked at every job interview for the rest of his life, how do you waste so much money without bothering to do the most basic research into the market?
This probably won't last long, but I'm giving Starfield another try
Cool, can they just hurry up and destroy the world please?

It was such a good series, I'd love to see a return!

Also, I went back to replay the first game recently and dear lord, I forgot just how much dialogue there is at times.

i don’t do tanning beds bc it becomes a panini press for cannibals if you’re not careful.
The real winner was the extra innings we made along the way.
