Turns out I forgot to account for the PLAYERS hurtbox so we were spawning the sword hitbox, registering a false hit (that caused no damage, so we didn’t obviously detect it) on the player, & de-spawning in the same frame 🤦♂️
As always, the problem was me, i.e. the player object
