The BBC World Service will run out of funding in just seven weeks. Its funding arrangement with the Foreign Office finishes at the end of March. There is no plan for what happens next.

Beautiful misty morning on Black Mountain #canberra

TFW you put a sleeve head in beautifully, but for the fact that it is inside out and back the front. #sewing

Frock coat dammit!

My brown velvet #fourthdoctor inspired frog coat is really coming along. The fabric is darker than it appears in this photo, also pictured a new bowtie project. #sewing

On this day in 1992, George H.W. Bush sent a memo to all White House staff about how fat his dog was

Enormously excited to announce that we will soon launch Season 3 of #CalledToTheBar with a blockbuster first episode on feminist careers in international law featuring Judge Hilary Charlesworth and Professors Christine Chinkin and Di Otto, chaired by @pagingdrpaige.bsky.social.

Soon!

Academic selfie: still too hot for real clothes in Canberra but a cool snap Monday allowed me to wear a jacket/waistcoat/trousers combo I’d made myself to work - along with new shoes! #sewing
Devastatingly sad.
Every Labour MP should be forced to read this. In fact, every MP, who rushed back to Parliament to vote to save one steel mill, whilst hastening the collapse of dozens of universities - and harming the students, staff, communities and economies universities sustain and support

When the Venn Diagram of malefactor oligarchs, kleptocrats, and powerful creeps turns out to be a circle.

#sewing ! A real challenge for the novice sewer, especially one interested in menswear, is collars. Trickier still when they meet a lapel. My first two frock coats have bodgy collars, so I thought I’d make a toile (mock up) in cotton to practice before #fourthdoctor coat. Getting there!

Absolutely delighted to receive my copy of Thomas Weatherall’s “The right to self-determination international law”. It is a privilege to serve on the editorial team for the Elements of International Law series and be able to provide a venue for this type of doctrinal scholarship.

Super excited to start #sewing with this fabric custom printed with a design by @thedoctorswardrobe on insta.

Many nerd bonus points to anyone who noticed that the pattern replicates that of the #fourthdoctor ‘s “Shada” waistcoat.

every time i see a white guy in their fifties radicalized by the twitter algorithm into racism and extremism i think about how it's a total failure of the youtube algorithm to instead radicalize him into home brewing, elaborate A/V setups, or DIY solar

Your periodic safety warning (unless you are already straight edge/sober):

Do not go to dinner on a weeknight with retired Australians.

My *god* they pour with a glad hand.

New moment in being a "senior" academic. Went to pilates for the first time in a month yesterday.

I am now creaking like a Spanish galleon in full sail.

New test for being a "senior" academic just dropped. Received a flattering email soliciting an update to a book chapter published 8 years ago for the 2nd edition. But had no memory of having written it. Check original book, find surprisingly good chapter under my name that I now - dimly - recall.

This long weekend I’ve spent about 7 or 8 hours cutting the 47 pieces of my next project (interfacing included). It’s going to be a brown velvet frock coat to accompany these earlier efforts in black and green.

It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."
Little note in the new Bill on Hate Speech

Good thing there will never be a Minister who acts in bad faith when they go about banning groups.
