Salem Towne, a pilot from Poulsbo in Washington State, finally released photos he took of the Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980. He heard of the explosion while flying in Olympia, and went to check it out. He flew his Cessna 150 into an opening between volcanic ash bands to snap the photos.

Not to be sad on main but two months ago was my dad's last day on this earth. I was lucky enough to get to sit with him as he was dying, at home, after leaving the hospital post-stroke. My kids got to say hi to him one last time. I got to sit with him and hold his hand and talk to him.
