This is from the NYT masthead editorial about the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The highlighted line invalidates not just the editorial, but the very idea of newspaper editorials crafted by the consensus of a board. Better to publish nothing at all than to publish a line like this.

Same people out there now dropping portentous, stentorian posts about The Battle Against Fascism ... were unwilling to look awkward or be mocked online for supporting Trump's only opponent.

To those blaming Walz for not mobilizing the Guard, he did that six days ago. I have to say it's disturbing to see people angry at Walz instead of the government agents that just executed a man. As though we should all be experts about what to do when a secret police force invades an American city.

FACT: Alex’s right hand held a phone. His left hand was on the ground. He was only trying to help a woman. It was cold blooded murder.

The Minnesota Star-Tribune, of course, being a paper that for the first time ever in 2024 did not endorse candidates in the election...
Today’s Minnesota Star Tribune front page will be hung in museums in future.

Every headline, every inch of it documenting a failed state; a descent into authoritarianism.

Yes, it's narrowly good that the Court is going to be inconsistent, but there's no way of holding that firing Cook is unconstitutional that doesn't dispositively undermine "unitary executive" theory
#SCOTUS is likely to do the right thing in the Lisa Cook case.

But it's worth bearing in mind that this idea that the Fed is some bespoke exception to the unitary executive theory is utterly incoherent as a matter of both law and history—and is really just proof that the UET is itself bollocks:
153. Living by the Ipse Dixit
A constitutional principle like the "unitary executive theory" isn't worth all that much if the Supreme Court can conjure new, unprincipled exceptions to it by simply asserting that they exist.

I know in my heart that the Siege of Minneapolis will go down as one of the biggest political blunders/grossest abuses of federal power in American history. Just a matter how long that consensus takes. Next week? Next year? Next decade?

Ackman has reposted the fundraiser but hasn’t posted about his own donation.

Simple, acute,resonant observation.
Man, history makes so much more sense now that I see what it's like living with a mad king.

The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

Witness George “Federalist” Conway running as a Dem in Nadler’s district while asserting that his core values remain the same as they ever were. Only Stuart Stevens among that crowd, if he, recognizes the deep corruption of his past beliefs.
Again, brought to you by the Bulwark crowd.
I need people to realize that there has been a concerted effort by never-Trump Republicans to take over the democratic party.

They don't want to be temporary, imperfect allies. They want to run things.
A George W. Bush Republican to represent one of the most liberal districts in the US???

If he wanted to run in a red district, fine.
