NEW: Another purge of immigration judges just happened, this time in New York City. This latest purge includes one of the smartest people I know, an immigration judge who dutifully served on the bench for 10 years. She was unceremoniously fired in violation of civil service laws.

Flag on the play! Holding heavy audacity on the offense. 100 year penalty.
Having a flashback to a moment:

"How dare you suggest that my intention was to be cruel! That's ridiculous! That's just my culture! You really need to learn to accept people as they are, not load them up with your personal baggage, and show a little more gratitude."

Seems like as time goes on more people will adopt this already emerging consensus view of the Biden admin in MENA, but it's one thing to say it and another to hold the architects of this program to account: why does no one ask why CAP hired Blinken, why CNN hired McGurk, Sullivan at Harvard?

Genocide denier and supporter Hillary Rodham Clinton is still collecting those Adelson checks for her American lifetime of service to Israeli settler-terrorism.
An extremist outlet that publicly advocates for fascism and genocide:
New: Hillary Clinton will be speaking at an event hosted by Israel Hayom (Israel's most read newspaper, run by Israeli-American billionaire & Trump megadonor Miriam Adelson).

She'll join John Fetterman, Eric Adams, Trump UN Ambassador Mike Waltz, Biden official Amos Hochstein, and Israeli officials

Admiral Bradley can take the hit for an administration that doesn't give two shits about him or the military in general, or he can drop his retirement papers and out every single political appointee involved. We'll soon see what kind of officer and leader he is.
REPORTER: Does the administration deny that that second strike happened, or did it happen and the administration denies that Hegseth gave the order?

LEAVITT: The latter. Secretary Hegseth authorized Admiral Bradley to conduct these kinetic strikes. He worked well within his authority and the law.

I think what they are trying to do is set up Hegseth too in the end. Not for charges, but get rid of him. "He doesn't have control of his people."
Yes and yikes. Still, there is an obligation not to obey clearly illegal orders. It is literally in the textbook not to fire upon enemy survivors clinging to a shipwreck. The officer knew or should have known what he was doing was illegal (and wrong). He had a duty to refuse an illegal command.

prison is the moderate position
If a man personally implicated in war crimes can remain atop the Pentagon, why would he stand by and risk his freedom should Vance (or Trump again) lose the 2028 election?

And unless Bradley sees the inside of a brig, the message to USSOCOM's chain of command is that no action is impermissible.
Pete Hegseth And Adm. Mitch Bradley Belong In Prison
The South American boat strikes are plainly murders. Now we have the names of the murderers. Do we have the political will to lock them up?

Notes from the valley of darkness, somewhere between denial and bargaining.
this is an accurate enough rap sheet but it still clings to the myth that biden's crimes stemmed from a botched effort to exert "leverage" over israel—rather than accepting the obvious reality, which is that biden was simply a willing and active participant in genocide

A switching long tail always remains long after the catastrophe has largely passed.
I didn't know anyone who died of AIDS. I know it still happens. I'm just slightly too young. But I do have friends who saw their friends get wiped out. The human cost is incalculable, and I'd never pretend to speak to it. But the older I get I'm more conscious of what it did to NY & the theatre.

Good thread. I am always thinking about how "constitutional sheriffs" rewrote Parks's story to fit their narrative.
Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

The whole "strong floor, no ceilings" thing doesn't really matter in the sense that it's not actually going to be the Democratic Party slogan. It matters because it shows how stupid and out of touch Hakeem Jeffries is and what that portends for the future of the party.

Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

One hard part of the literacy problem in the United States is there are a lot of people -- some of them with college degrees and beyond -- who don't realize that they are bad at reading

I don't know how to reach those people

LSU is paying its previous football coach over $50 million NOT to coach there while likely guaranteeing Kiffin something approaching double that, all while having an academic hiring freeze and budget cuts across the board. What is the purpose of a university (rhetorical)?
SOURCES: Lane Kiffin is expected to accept LSU's offer to become the Tigers next head coach. Kiffin is set to meet with his Ole Miss team this morning at 9 AM CT. As we reported yesterday morning, LSU has been very confident it was going to land Kiffin. www.nytimes.com/athletic/684...
