Several blocks in downtown Chicago are not part of *any* congressional district map (new or old). How on earth is this possible? The answer involves billions of dollars, brothels, Abraham Lincoln, and a bit of geomorphology. 1/

The partisan divide has grown, too. The wealthiest 100 tended to give more to Republicans than to Democrats before last year. But giving to the GOP spiked in 2024, with *84%* of donations going to back Republicans or conservative PACs.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

What happened last night was that after I got home, turned on MSNBC, grabbed my laptop and settled in on the couch, I got a notification: “Live video with G. Elliott Morris, David Nir, and David Beard now: Election night live coverage, with The Downballot & Strength In Numbers.” G. Elliott Morris’s Strength in Numbers website is something I just began following in the last month or so. He’s very impressive, and I was happy to see him teamed up with the Downballot crew. I immediately put on their three-way video chat coverage. After about five minutes of listening to them, I muted MSNBC. I never turned the volume back on. I never checked the New York Times. I never opened the county and state board of elections sites that I usually track down. I never looked at X-Twitter or BlueSky. I didn’t need any of that because these guys were telling me exactly what I needed to know pretty much exactly when I needed to know it.

Looking at all available precincts in Hudson County, Sherrill support is higher in the most-densely Hispanic turf & tracks closely with '21. Turnout is *higher* than '21 across the county-- and even more so in the most Hispanic precincts.

The 2024 election is upon us. Millions of ballots have already been cast. Mail-in ballots are being returned. Early voting is taking place. And dozens of rumors are spreading. So, let me re-introduce our framework for diagnosing how many “evidence-based” rumors mislead:
FIVE "MOVES" OF MISLEADING ELECTION RUMORS FALSE EVIDENCE — The rumor is fabricated or manipulated evidence, such as false statements, deceptively edited content, and synthetic (AI-generated) content. MISINTERPRETED EVIDENCE — The rumor is based on real evidence that has been mischaracterized or misinterpreted to create a false impression. OMITTED REMEDIES — The rumor highlights real or perceived issues with election administration but overlooks or obscures remedies, such as downstream security measures, to imply an untrustworthy process or results. EXAGGERATED IMPACT — The rumor exaggerates the impact of real or perceived issues with election adminstration to imply an untrustworthy process or results. FALSE ATTRIBUTED INTENT — The rumor falsely attributes intention to real or perceived issues with election administration to imply voter or election fraud.
