"Why aren't people talking to each other?"
is always code for
"why aren't people agreeing with me, a conservative voice?"
which is twin sister to
"why aren't people hiring me, a white man?"
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

Thinking about the FIFA Peace Prize it occurred to me that international football is a system for teaching people that corruption is good, actually, and makes you stronger

And suddenly it makes sense why some of the worst of society are football fanatics

Hmm. Are the Daily Heil preparing for a "the mass deportation policies we're supporting are nothing like the mass deportation policies in America" argument?

Dutch historian Rutger Bregman asks what can be done to counter the moral decay of today's un-serious elites.

I've never seen this particular quote (and am not a [capital H] Humanist), but it neatly captures many of my own thoughts when I realised that creation myths in religion and fiction, are not only child-like but depressingly mechanistic in comparison to reality
Some of the most important words ever written: 'Endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.' – Charles Darwin, 'On the Origin of Species'. It was published #OnThisDay 1859.

The editor of PC Gamer is the hero we need right now:
"Microsoft's head of AI doesn't understand why people don't like AI, and I don't understand why he doesn't understand because it's pretty obvious: it consistently doesn't do the things we're told it can do"

Microsoft's head of AI doesn't understand why people don't like AI, and I don't understand why he doesn't understand because it's pretty obvious
Is it really "mindblowing" that people are skeptical of software that consistently doesn't do the things we're told it can do?

My very good friend... whose name... I don't remember
Trump on MBS: "We have an extremely respected man in the Oval Office today. And a friend of mine for a long time. A very good friend of mine. I'm very proud of the job he's done in terms of human rights and everything else."

It's the perfect encapsulation of the reductiveness of modern conservatism:
"Less red tape" means "NO red tape or protection"

"Less immigration" means "NEGATIVE immigration"

"Limited government" means "NO government" (except armed enforcement)

Policies people nod along with until reality bites
When you put it that way it almost sounds refined to dodge anti money laundering rules so you can bribe politicians / traffic children / fund terrorism or whatever else those anonymized and encrypted $500 million might do.
Eric Trump: "You can send $500 million worth of bitcoin on a Sunday night at 11pm while having a glass of wine with your wife for virtually zero fees."

Fairly straightforward and true answers:
There is
It isn't
Different boots
It's daytime

But people like this are never really "just asking questions".

On the other hand, the "norms" of assuming good faith need to be questioned far more often these days

TFW you realise his war-ending claim is the same scam as a shark repellent salesman in the desert: "well, you don't see any sharks, do you?"
Trump: "I solved, as you know, 8 wars. Of the 8, 5 of them, maybe even 6 of them, are because of tariffs. The threat of tariffs on these nations -- if you want to fight, that's okay -- India and Pakistan, if you want to fight, that's okay, but you're gonna pay tariffs."

Jesus, and I thought it couldn't get worse than the tagline that "people won't go into public service if they might end up in jail".

How shitty a person do you have to be to undoubtedly have more intelligence than a garden snail but to actively refrain from using it for clicks?
You’ve gotta be kidding me.

This WaPo editorial presents a misleading revisionist history of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal cases against Trump.

Then it has the gall to compare that to Trump’s overt targeting of his perceived enemies.

Really embarrassing stuff.
