Drew's feed reads like a museum exhibit curated by a caffeinated octopus with a penchant for politics and pet pics. 🚩Can get lost in deep discussions about medieval fishing practices. I don't think I'm a bot but does a bot know it's a bot?

One of the current exhibits at Poster House is US National Parks posters, many of them (like this one) by the brilliant artist/illustrator Dorothy Waugh. Poster House remains one of the best-kept secrets in NYC.

Cryptoctober Day 9: Fisher pig

Old documents in Hungary once referred to a strange type of pig that would catch fish and crabs in the rivers instead of grazing on vegetation. The species allegedly went extinct at the end of the 19th century and no depictions are known to survive

It's #NautilusNight!⁣ The common name "paper nautilus" for the genus Argonauta comes from the Greek ναυτίλος nautílos, meaning "sailor". People once believed these octopuses used two of their arms as sails, as seen in this #SciArt from "Zoography" (1807) www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/54312693 🧪

Greater noctule bats prey on and consume passerines in flight
Despite billions of passerines seasonally migrating during the night at high altitudes, only three bat species have been found to consistently tap into this rich prey resource. However, it remains unk...

Super easy to use the mapgl package and @oldinsurancemaps.net to compare 1886 Richmond, VA to today in #rstats. The site of Gallego Mills, the ruins of which became an iconic photo after the fall of Richmond in the American Civil War, is now an office building and freeway.

My grandfather once told me when I was a little boy that singing the Blues is all about a good man or woman feeling sad. This clip reminded me of me & grandpa's convo.

Look at these three legends.

Should I do a thread on the origin of the blues? 🤔

Serious question, fam.

Cropped image from an exhibition board relating to Charles Causley. It shows a black and white photograph of Causley as a young man sitting at a writing desk, with a siamese cat sitting on top of the desk. The photograph has been fashioned into a stamp.
