We further propose that these structures resulted from the Mesoproterozoic convergence between the Bundelkhand and Bastar Cratons along the Central Indian Tectonic Zone.

We present from the Lower Vindhyan Group, for the 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘, compelling field evidence like buckle folds, reverse faults, and pop-up structures, commonly encountered in fold-thrust belts, that unambiguously support their collisional origin as opposed to the largely believed syn-sedimentary origin.
Geological maps of the study area. (a) Central Indian Tectonic Zone and associated tectonic units. (b) Geological map of Son Valley. Field locations, marked by numbered white circles, indicate sites where structural data were collected. Geological map, structural data, and outcrop-scale deformation structures from the Silwar-Bahri-Singrauli Traverse (Madhya Pradesh, India).

As Farage gears up for appearing on BBC One about grooming gangs, it is really important that he is called out on it. There have already been inquiries into grooming gangs. Likes of Farage want to make them about race, they aren't, and trying to pretend otherwise allows other offenders to carry on 👇
danielsohege.bsky.social
Reporting on grooming gangs tends to focus on minorities, however, as Home Office's own report showed, offenders are far more likely to be white, British. This isn't an immigration issue. Playing to racist tropes means majority of perpetrators are ignored. 1/ #r4today

Now we're looking for an "enthusiastic PhD student"...🙄

When I was in academia, an autistic PhD student once kindly educated me about how conveying *enthusiasm* was, for them, incredibly challenging...

Ready for some more interesting facts about earthquake magnitude?

Each whole number increase in magnitude is a 10x increase in the measured amplitude (size of earthquake waves recorded on a seismometer), but represents 32x more energy released.

This video gives a visual demonstration.

I’m building this in a way that is automatic. You can focus on building your Owlstown academic website, and the text-only version is automatically created. No fuss, no extra work.

Ammonite is much loved in Japan. The logo of the Paleontological Society of Japan is an ammonite. For the most people, a fossil = an ammonite fossil.

There is an ammonite fossil exhibit at Kumamoto University right now. In Japan ammonite fossils have been found in western Kyushu and Hokkaido. #FossilFriday ⚒️
4 ammonite fossils with curly shells Three large ammonite fossils on a table with a do not touch sign. A very large, 80 cm wide ammonite fossil in a crate. There is a sign saying you can touch it. Various fossils on a table, including some ammonites, taken from a location in Amakusa, Kumamoto.

Another example why the world needs more geologists and geoscientists. Another route for geology to save the world and a great way to make a job market for those leaving the oil and gas industry 🧪⚒️ www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Anyway here’s a cheerful piece about how the Sun will eventually destroy all life on Earth (but not by exploding, so, you know, there’s that)
Here’s how the Sun will end all life on Earth
Our home star won't go supernova, but the end of its life will be no less spectacular.

It should not escape our attention as to how few FRS are women (11%!), but yet it took a woman to set an example.
