This is a scheme to pipeline people into using for-profit AI tech through exposure in the public education system. Even if you wanted guidelines for AI already in use, why would you develop them in collaboration with AI companies that want people to use their products as often as possible?

Largely agree with this. It definitely seems more that certain structural configurations create paths of least resistance. Reminds me of an ever-salient Pynchon line in Gravity's Rainbow: "a million bureaucrats are diligently plotting death, and some of them even know it"
one of my iron clad beliefs is that there are very few actual “schemes” in the world. instead, there are just a lot of stupid, venal people and quite a few of them hold positions of real power and authority
"Corporate leadership is as stupid as everyone else and freaked out about viral shoplifting videos" isn't as exciting as "the pharmacies are doing fascist performance art so they can uh murder all poor people" but sometimes things really are just stupid
