Best understood, Labour's attack on juries, as a further lurch towards authoritarianism. Who, now, will stand in the way of a State that wants to imprison its opponents?

Labour is turning Britain into an authoritarian state.

That’s bad enough now.

But imagine what a Nigel Farage government will build on all these authoritarian foundations.

Only cases of alleged murder, rape or manslaughter will be decided by a jury under new proposals to cut court backlogs.

"I have never directly really tried to go and hurt anybody." Clearly being a bigoted twat just comes so naturally to some people they don't have to make any effort.

Raiding university finances when dozens of institutions are already imposing devastating cuts, departmental closures & redundancies would be utterly ruinous for a sector in which the UK is world-renowned. For Reeves to even contemplate it confirms she's incompetent & desperately out of her depth.
For more than a decade now the government’s answer to how to fund universities has been to make money from overseas students.

The last lot then tried to discourage students from coming here.

This lot just want the money back.

But then how do we fund ourselves?

Crazy.

the thing that scares me about Labour HE policy is that because I work in the sector I can see how absolutely insane it is, which makes me wonder just how terrible their policies are in all the other sectors I’m in less of a position to engage with critically out of lack of knowledge.

Remarkably simple solution. If you don't want the backing of the far-right for your immigration policy, or to have people point out that you have their backing, don't base your immigration policy on the far-right's rhetoric and ideology.

So "talented & skilled individuals displaced by conflict" can come to Britain. But what about the poor, the disadvantaged & those who, through no fault of their own, haven't had access to education? A process based on an individual's 'worth' not need is immoral.

The govt's proposed new asylum laws are impractical, ineffectual, and outright cruel. Aping the rhetoric of Reform won't fix the real issues in this country; it will only stir up more false divisions and endanger already vulnerable communities.

Mahmood: "can unite what is today a divided country".

Well yes, though perhaps not in the way intended. Now both racists and progressives will be united in viewing Shabana Mahmood with utter contempt.
The government should be ashamed that its migration policies are being cheered on by Tommy Robinson and Reform.

Instead of standing up to anti-migrant hate, this is laying the foundations for the far-right.

I questioned the Home Secretary on how she can be proposing such obviously cruel policies.
