I'm trying to watch the new Stranger Things but it just feels stupid at this point.

yep. also really can't overstate how much nuzzi is very much the product of an environment that rewards amoral ambition and frowns on people who sincerely believe anything

I can't believe a movie with the line, "young, dumb, and full of Christ" exists in the world now

One thing about the end of the latest piece from Ryan Lizza about how corrupt Olivia Nuzzi is: the artist mentioned here is the same one who Vanity Fair commissioned to do the "abstract nude" painting of Nuzzi

This discourse raged on X, but Andy Masley recently revealed major a error in a recent popular book on AI where the author grossly mischaracterized the amount of water used by data centers

He's done a lot of work punching a hole in that particular myth in general

Empire of AI is wildly misleading on AI water use
I discovered at least one major error that gets a number off by 3 orders of magnitude

If I had a preference for why people block me my favorite are the ones who do it because I download pirated books

Depends on who you block and follow but it has a fledging community I think. I think I've curated my account well enough to make sure I don't deal too much with Anti AI discourse
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?

"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

Amazing
Sooo many folks I’m excited to work with on Mamdani’s technology transition committee. All hands on deck to bring the Affordability Agenda to life: childcare, housing, transportation.

While its easy to get swept up in personality, this is a group focused on peoples real needs. LETS KEEP THE FOCUS.

Ridley Scott's Blood Meridian
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Pecan is absolutely one of the best but calling apple pie bad is ridiculous. A warmed up piece of apple pie with some vanilla ice cream is euphoric
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

Maybe it's because I am tall, but why are there no book or tablet desktop stands that rise to eye-level? Why do all these reading stands still expect you to lean over the book and look down

the fact that if you phrase search in a PDF and if it has a line break it won't find it is one of those mostly insignificant concerns you can't understand why it has not been remedied so drives you completely insane

There was a kind of a delight in being in tech after the 2000–1 crash, because it was back to us true believers. LLM-based AI has been coupled with the AI bubble. Once that bubble pops, I think we'll see the advancement of on-device, ethically-sourced LLMs, and I think they'll be fun.

It's strange to be in a field wishing for the bubble around you to pop, but I think this post captures some of the why. AI as technology has so much cool and fun potential, and it's going to be so exciting to see it freed from being developed and pushed by the awful people at the top of tech.
