My Pokemon-esque roguelike has some fancy new screen transitions! I still haven't decided on a name but I'm tentatively referring to it as "Critterlocke."

This week’s fresh game dev hell involves creating a save system. I thought it’d be easy - serialize some booleans and objects, write to a file, read them later.

Nested objects throw a wrench in it all, bloating my save time or making things too complex. I may need to write 20 custom serializers.

Such a good thread
The bad news is that we're on our own, but the good news is that we have each other. As this last week showed us, better things are possible, but the people who currently hold the power aren't the ones who are going to make those things come true. We have to seize power for ourselves and each other.

Vote out literally every Democrat senator when you can. The Republicans owned the shutdown until one hour ago. Now we all suffered for nothing.

I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”

The ultimate guide to not work on your game:

1. Work on a part you don't like working on
2. Feel unmotivated
[Optional] 2b. Have an exhausted 9-to-5 to pay the bills
3. Find a videogame to play and sink your time into

That's it! Great job, you can feel guilty now!

this post has made me a believer. languages and frameworks are TOO GOOD now. it’s too easy to do things the complex, suboptimal way that “feels” right. rather than being forced to find a creative solution that often works better.
In Yoshi's Island, a cave background sparkles, but only when Yoshi moves. This is achieved in an inventive way by making many 1-pixel "pinholes" in the background through which a field of stars is visible. The parallax motion shows the stars intermittently, creating sparkles.
