Our new podcast is OUT NOW! It's a Christmas play!!! Who'd have thought? Have a listen and see what you think? It's a bit of fun. Spot the Christmas cracker jokes, the Jay-Z lyric, the heckling by Bella the cat and so much more... #EconSky open.spotify.com/episode/1Hpe...
Great article on the pricing art. Lots to think about. Definitely links to Veblen and the Theory of the Leisure Class. #EconSky open.spotify.com/episode/6Nvy...

What a really good read. Often with game theory, a suggested strategy is randomness but if humans aren't good at randomness then surely it's not a good strategy to follow. This is interesting as well - "...people who stop overanalysing the past may have a better chance at winning in the future.”

Paused my American Canto hate-read to finish writing a blog post about internet history.

Optimization was an era. It ended. Now we're living through the enshittification era. It, too, won't last forever.

(And we can kind of blame Elon for this mess.)

Worth checking out 2 new exhibitions at the Tate Britain. First is the Constable/Turner one and that's superbly curated. Overheard a visitor say that the Constable paintings were 'too chocolate box' but surely he was the guy who inspired that! Secondly was the Lee Miller exhibition...very powerful.

Really feeling this at the mo. About three weeks now of going into school feeling as rough as can be. Teaching is one of those jobs where you can't hide in work & it's worse being off school than in due to the additional work it creates. 😭🤒😷 #EduSky www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Will always find it odd that when a player has a fantastic game the match before they get dropped the next game. Isn't sport all about confidence? Obviously something in the data must link to this but it is madness. In this particular case, not sure why Magassa isn't starting for the Hammers.

Excellent article by @dsmitheconomics.bsky.social on the UK's continued 'Productivity Puzzle' and it comes with some book recommendations as well. We've got 'Capitalism and its Critics' but lots of other goodies. Maybe next week podcast recommendations David & we have just the thing... 😉 #EconSky

When is a podcast not a podcast?
When it's a TV show? 🤔
It's fascinating the market for podcasts. Originally democratic, no barriers, not much gate-keeping but now dominated (like everything) by big players & big celebrities. As Janet Jackson said - its about control. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Jingle Bell Ball seems to be streaming on YouTube. Five followed by Rizzle Kicks. What more can you want on a Saturday evening? Seeing Rizzle Kicks at Somerset House was definitely one of our highlights of the year. They rock.

THE ASSET CLASS, my first book, will be published by @wnbooks.bsky.social on 9 April 2026. It’s a narrative investigation of private equity, a secretive and relentlessly destructive wing of finance that penetrates almost every aspect of our lives - and it’s available to pre-order now!

Can we bring back the Ben Foakes debate? In the economics world, we know the importance of specialisation. Catches win matches & he's a stubborn batter as well. Amazing we've been building towards this for a year or so & what everyone knew would happen has happened against a injury hit Aussie team.

On this day in 1896 Gunnar Myrdal was born. He won the Economics Nobel Prize alongside Hayek in 1974. His wife won the Peace Prize in 1982 and so became one of only 4 couples that have both won a Nobel. Alas, we don't have a podcast on Myrdal but have a read... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunnar_...
