Finding out that Jared Leto kept doing his method acting shit and insisted on staying in character on the set of Tron Ares and would only answer to the name of Ares is so funny, like making a big ass douche of yourself for the third Tron movie where you play “computer program that gains feelings”

Honestly, Grok sponsoring a Tron movie is the most anti-Tron thing and just shows how much Ares is straight up corporate tech bro propaganda. It’s very sad. Tron has such potential and never fully gets there. Legacy and Uprising are good but Tron: Identity tbh is the franchise peak.
A sponsorship installation for Musks Grok doing AI bullshit at the Tron Ares premiere.

Phil Spencer realizing being the Netflix of games was a costly move and it might outdo the Don Mattrick era.

My crush for Lacey and yet, holy fuck, this was ugh. No wonder me and my friends rarely watch and riff Hallmark movies.

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

I agree with @talkinghenry.bsky.social, Homer would be a fan of According to Jim, maybe it would work better if it was something more hacky.
eddievercetti.bsky.social
Underrated ones where the post 3D one, Homer screaming and one recent one that just had no scream because of a song.

I wish there was better trajectory for Tron. But alas, there's a reason KPOP and Black Phone hit for many. Unless it's a clear reboot, it's best to leave things in the past.

I want to make it perfectly clear I've got nothing against TRON: ARES. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

But what I want most is for the younger generations to love going to the movies, which means we need more movies for them. Not every movie needs to be for 50 year old white guys.
