Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Trump’s attacks on Somali people are pure racism and Islamophobia. All immigrant communities are important to me, but Somali folks have a special place in my heart because of those I knew in Chicago and Seattle. ❤️

Texas Tech has decided it wants to be a football program affiliated with something equivalent to an air conditioning repair school
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

Which parents are the ones who get "parental rights?" In Bellbrook-Sugarcreek School District (OH), it's those who want to ban books featuring any "sexuality content" or "gender ideology." Inside the school board's educationally-destructive new policy:

In Belfast, even in Unionist neighborhoods, Gaeilge, the once-outlawed Irish language, is enjoying a remarkable resurgence with new schools and bilingual signs.

NYT is asking the public to donate to education charities. Ok, sure. But individual donations can’t make up for the huge gap created by the loss of federal funding. Vote to restore funding education if you want an educated public.

I had a great conversation with @joshcowenmi.bsky.social about a real problem in education: too many policymakers offer critique without solutions. Teachers solve complex challenges every day... imagine if policymakers approached problems the way educators do. joshcowen.substack.com/p/education-...
Education is the Ultimate Kitchen Table Issue
Why isn't education a top-tier issue for many Democrats? As Randi Weingarten tells me: "We need to lead the movement for school improvement."

So grateful to everyone in NYC who mobilized to stop the ICE raid of Canal St. The violence being committed against immigrants is heart-wrenching, but the shows of solidarity we have seen around the country give me so much hope.

I truly cannot express how much we need to anticipate mass denaturalization as a likely future policy, and plan for it accordingly.
The President of the United States promising a policy of mass denaturalization of citizens "who undermine domestic tranquility"
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

Why should Congress authorize executive agencies to do anything at all, ever?

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
