“The imminent return of trains to northern Ontario and the Gaspé Peninsula is great news. But we need to make sure it’s only the beginning of a long-lasting national passenger rail revival.”

@taras-grescoe.com makes the case for Canada’s trains.
Opinion: Canada’s passenger rail lines are getting revived after decades of vanishing service
Across North America, there is a grassroots clamouring for the return of railway lines that once provided a reliable and affordable alternative to cars and planes

I haven't been in the best of moods as of late, so I took a break on requests today and drew a Mirabilis, to help me clear my head some more.

Pikmin Bloom day in review: another day of trying to fill in gaps in the State Hospital grounds... luckily there were already some tracks in the snow that I could follow. Also, another good day for icicle growth.

I live next to an abortion clinic. Apparently the clinics themselves are the only ones who can call for the buffer zone to be enforced, or else I would have called for its enforcement myself years ago. #NHPolitics

New details about the federal government’s plan to convert an industrial warehouse in Merrimack, N.H., into a regional processing center for immigration detainees were released by Governor Kelly Ayotte’s office Thursday afternoon.
‘Helping ICE effectuate mass deportations’: Ayotte releases info on Trump administration’s plans for detainment facility - The Boston Globe
A facility in Merrimack, N.H., would house 400 to 600 detainees and serve as a staging location for transfers or removals, according to newly obtained documents.

That's right:
If this Most Cited List (from a Leiter post earlier this year on political philosophy books with over 4000 citations) is right then it's wild just how hard liberalism is winning in political philosophy. Total ideological domination.

This is what happens when someone who has accepted almost $500k in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry is chosen to run the EPA. Might as well rename it the “Oil and Gas Industry Protection Agency” since Lee Zeldin has no interest in protecting our environment. #NHPolitics #NH01
Breaking News: The Trump administration repealed the bedrock scientific finding that greenhouse gases threaten human life and well being, meaning that the EPA can no longer regulate them. nyti.ms/4rSszQu

I apologize on behalf of New Hampshire; we're actually not all cheaters here (although Corey Lewandowski certainly is):

Oh hey my alma mater is on the list:
Not all of the best universities in the country are on the list, and not all of the universities on the list are the best the country, but damn, it's a pretty good list of some of the best universities in the country. They're the kind of universities we want military officers to be able to attend.

From what I hear, Thomas Massie is a "prepper" who lives off-grid and is very difficult to get in touch with. Although, as the saying goes, "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you."
Thomas Massie tweeting out a "if I die I was murdered" statement is a very concerning development.

They all get threats but he's clearly rattled by them.

The location has some interesting neighbors that shows up better in the color version of Open Streets Map. (Rough project site in yellow).

Not in their application: the campground, Boston TRACON and BAE (Space Systems & Electronics facility). This is not a good spot to add more electronic noise.

Absolutely reprehensible:
SCOOP: Social Security workers are being told to give the details of appointments customers are making to ICE, raising the prospect of secret police abducting people going to mandatory SSA appointments. @zoeschiffer.bsky.social, @telliotter.bsky.social, and @leahfeiger.bsky.social have more.
Social Security Workers Are Being Told to Hand Over Appointment Details to ICE
The recent request goes against decades of precedent, and puts noncitizens at further risk of immigration enforcement actions.

An attorney for Sen. Elissa Slotkin is urging the Justice Department to shut down an investigation into a viral video telling members of the military not to follow "illegal orders" after a federal grand jury in D.C. rejected an attempt to indict her and five other Democrats.
'The grand jury has spoken': Elissa Slotkin's lawyer tells DOJ to close social video probe
Moving forward with the case after a failed attempt to indict six Democrats, Slotkin's attorney wrote, "would violate clear ethical duties and Justice Department policy."
