Scottish, parent, dog servant, book lover. I don't do "follow back". Pronouns are she/her
I broke both of mine, they got better (and let's face it, they broke themselves, I just failed to catch them)

Use the good china!

I found fancy fountain pen inks dried out.

That expensive liquor oxidizes and changes flavor.

The lotion goes rancid.

Drink it, use it, don't save it for a brighter day. Find joy in your world. Grab Grandma's crystal for your morning juice. Don't wait. Life is short.

I felt like making some art last night/today and could have made something beautiful and/or meaningful but I made this instead.

It's a Barbie Yaga Malibu Dream Hut.

No regrets. Can't defeat fascism without joy.

Much of this sector is run by the sort of people who'd take the chassis out of a car to reduce weight and make it go faster.
Missing from the coverage of redundancies at Edinburgh: this was done in such a haphazard, uncoordinated way, there are now core teams who have gone from 5 people to 1 with no change in workload or pressure and huge loss in knowledge of institutional process. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2576321...
Hundreds of staff leave Edinburgh University amid cuts drive
According to the university, 345 of these departures were the result of a targeted voluntary severance (VS) scheme run by the institution in 2025.

Discrimination law should mean that people have their rights protected *regardless* of their sex, not because of a defined category of sex they fall into. The terrible notion of "sex-based rights" is exactly how we have ended up in such a terrible legal position in the UK.
People claiming we need to define 'sex' purely by reproductive biology to save Title IX are missing the point. That narrow definition actually makes it harder to stop discrimination. You remove the broader gamut of gender discrimination in the process. Bostock didn't need a definition!

A video shared online with captions claiming it shows an asylum seeker giving a tour of their home after being removed from a migrant hotel is misleading.

The clip was actually filmed by a property investor to market a house which is up for sale.

Nurse's approach is totally at odds with UKRI 's position on Research Culture, and any (normal) human's position on expectations in law abiding, civil society.

More of this ⬇️ is needed.
Following coverage over the weekend of Sir Paul Nurse's comments that suggested that the only reason that a Fellow should be expelled from @royalsociety.org is scientific misconduct, I have written to him to explain the risks such an attitude poses of increasing sexual harassment in STEM.

As soon as the Portland Frog became a meme, Jewish social media blew up with jokes about the 2nd Passover plague - tzefarde'a (frogs) - and the Rabbinical commentary around it. I knew I had to make a calligraphy piece encompassing all of it. (more in alt.)
