When I was in grad school a family donated to my dept $500/semester for each grad student to buy books from a local independent bookstore. I got to start my own library of books I could annotate and branch out into an area I wasn't originally studying (in which I ended up minoring). It was awesome.

Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?

This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

The New York Times knows crime is not “out of control” in major U.S. cities — in fact, crime is way down from past years and decades — but NYT amplifies JD Vance’s lie without a fact check.
It’s journalism malpractice that helps the fascists.

Would be a good time to shut down Dreamforce. If I have friends who are still speaking there, this is a good reason to cancel.

“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

This feels like the key point. A discussion over semantics as opposed to the accessibility of action in defense of democracy. And even, I would add, the potential for not only stopping the slide but fomenting a robust renewal of core democratic values.

You’re a straight up toadie & every Texan should be embarrassed by you. All it takes is for your Big Daddy to call you — whether to redistrict or send your National Guard to invade another state — & you snap to attention.

You’re a truly pathetic excuse for a leader/human being.

It is not clear that Mr. Trump’s image can be featured on a coin. An 1866 law enshrined a tradition that only deceased people could appear on U.S. currency to avoid the appearance that America was a monarchy. Trump admin is planning to do it anyway.

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.
