I've often wanted a Monster Manual that showed creatures in their environment, demonstrating skills that they are known for.

Today, I've resurrected my favorite dwarf adventurer, Husky Thunderbolt (from 2019's Inktober entries), who will soon realize what a clever trapper the Ettercap is.🕸

Beast, bestial, bestiary, pronounced like they're spelled. Embrace the beautiful nonsense of horrid english, she is not long for this world.

Also revel in the rare time she makes phonetic sense

Don’t feel stupid if you fell for fake video. It can be really hard to tell these days. But we do have to try and be careful with what we share because there’s so much AI video out there.

It’s just the world we live in now.

In Yoshi's Island, a cave background sparkles, but only when Yoshi moves. This is achieved in an inventive way by making many 1-pixel "pinholes" in the background through which a field of stars is visible. The parallax motion shows the stars intermittently, creating sparkles.

I love taking a few supplies to a cafe and doing a thorough art session with friends - here's a spread from earlier this year, drawn by putting down flats first with crayola markers, and then layering neocolor ii crayons overtop.
A photo of a tabletop covered in markers, art crayons, and a sketchbook spread showing a drawing of a twisted tree, and another drawing of a large impossible castle in a pastoral landscape against the sea and a pink cloud-filled sky.

Was just at a neighborhood school at dismissal. Hundreds of people with whistles surrounding the school and stationed down every block making sure ICE doesn’t snatch anyone. The same is happening at all the schools around here. I love my neighborhood and I love Chicago.

Kristi Noem, while governor of South Dakota, supplemented her roughly $130,000 salary by secretly accepting $80,000 donated to a political nonprofit she was affiliated with, records show.

She never disclosed this income on federal ethics forms.

Of the four computers in my house only one was eligible to upgrade to windows 11 and it developed a bug which meant I couldn't log on the first time it powered up every day. Anyway if anyone's experiencing that bug turns out the solution is Linux

This video never names it, but it nails the “woozle effect”: when something seems true bc sources cite each other instead of an original. The term’s from Winnie the Pooh, where Pooh and Piglet follow their own tracks in circles looking for "woozles." Perfect metaphor for AI ouroboros poisoning info.

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
