This is fantastic!

The E Tū Fb post did a shout out to one of the cleaners at my work, Mareta, for speaking up on the need for them to be paid the living wage.

Mareta does essential work. If she didn’t do her job properly, the collections would be at risk of damage.

She does amazing work ❤️

GOOD NEWS ALERT 🚨

Today the government relented to pressure from the @livingwageaotearoa.bsky.social and retained the requirement for contracted workers to be paid at least the Living Wage rate in Government Contracts. Around 5,000 workers will likely benefit from this decision

Just helped some tourists w big suitcases to cross the road. Went into nearby cafe, they were also heading there and insisted on buying me a coffee to say thank you! After a few goes I gave up protesting (no big deal etc) & accepted ☺️. Hope their flight back to China is a smooth one. 🇳🇿

Ah, the joy of freelance life. A couple of 2026 funding pools have just dried up, so if anyoneʻs interested in a project with a Wikipedian, now’s the time to get in touch. www.rove.wiki

The only reason we've avoided having more huge outbreaks is that most ppl are immunised and this is v effective at preventing measles. When vaccination rates are too low, it lets measles back in.

Two doses of MMR vaccine is the recommendation for anyone born since 1969.

Just had the pleasure of meeting Ghostcat in action on St Asaph St near Manchester St corner. Love these slices of pre-quake Ōtautahi! Dog House and Cat’s Pyjamas were my go-to for late night hot chips after one too many, back in the day. Good times. #kikorangi
www.ghostcat.co.nz/about
Ghostcat the artist, a bearded man with glasses in grey hoody and shorts, stands next to a wall which has the beginnings of the old yellow Warners Hotel facade (not to scale, obvs).
Below, the red and white signage of the Dog House, a ChCh late night institution in Cathedral Square, known for being open all night for arcade games and greasy burgers to soak up the too-many-pints after a big night.
The Cat’s Pyjamas fast food joint facade is out of shot, but trust me it’s there.

we have gone from a world in which we were told not to cite wikipedia because it was unreliable to a world where wikipedia might be the only reliable source left on the internet and we all owe a lot to the pedantic nerds who got us there

Hey #BOTY #Kikorangi, just a reminder from Peppy that I have a LOT of native bird enamel pins and sticker designs...while I may not have EVERY bird, I do give a portion of profits to Trees That Count every month.

Snag some goodies, support a local artist, and celebrate birds! pepperraccoon.com

Now would be a bad time then to report that I got it first go 😂. Bittern for #BOTY !

Every time I hear Health NZ representatives say the nurses are putting people at risk I think: no, Health NZ, you are putting people at risk and this strike is Nurses trying to stop your harm
cynethryth.com
I want the government to fund our nurses and healthcare system. I know people whose healthcare was delayed, not by strikes, but by our overburdened system struggling under the load.

There isn't even appropriate gynaecological care in our capital city. It's INSULTING how poorly our public system is.

Nurses are on strike today in Aotearoa. If you see them on the picket line, give them your aroha and support!

Fairer pay and safer staffing levels are just the beginning.

A plug for Milkman, tiny cafe by Little High, Chch that @emdashkat.bsky.social put me onto. Great cheese scones ($5.50, and better than Foundation's $8 ones), opens absurdly early with fresh baking, good coffee and no extra charge for fake milk. Ben is a nice guy, check it out.
Delicious cheese scone, look at that texture and extra cheese. Also conversation starter cards on the table should you need them. A jar of fresh-baked soft American style cookies and some huge pinwheel chilli cheese scrolls. Austere blue graphic identity and he has badges too for cool people. Well-priced coffee and no charge for alternative milk, a rarity in this city.

Great coffee, can confirm. Doing simple things well. Got a pin am I cool now.

So good! Love the first one especially.

Also my favourite. My money is on the weka.
