We’ve so internalised the idea that racism is ‘causing offence’ that we’ve forgotten that it was usually about structural oppression. In 1968 Powell, who Farage referenced tonight, was trying to prevent the 2nd Race Relations Act being passed. He wanted racial discrimination to remain legal.

The same nations that claimed to be the defenders of human rights and international law are the same nations that did this to a tiny strip of land, once home to 2.2 million people, 70-80% of whom are descendants of refugees who fled Israeli ethnic cleansing in 1948.

Imagine TV News covering this farmer protest - banned, but turned up anyway, grinding capital to a halt - if it were about Palestine or climate change, not inheritance tax. Would they present protesters as heroes? Or showing "I need to get to work" and "me auld mam missed her hip operation" voxpops?
