(it's one of the ways we are different, a fact i reflect on every time i make us late for a party bc as we were about to walk out the door i identified some minuscule flaw in my outfit that no one else would've noticed, and then i have to spiral for 20 minutes while he goes "but you look great...")

gio has a quality i think is kind of a superpower: the rare ability to just do the thing you feel like doing without tying yourself into knots over how it will look. even if it's imperfect, even if you're anxious, to put yourself out there anyway because you'll always be better for it

I put this album together over the past few weeks partially in response to the scourge of AI art. I find it sad that so many choose to sand out the creative process that makes art worthwhile to cut straight to the final product. These songs are messy at times, but to me, that's what makes them.

zombies are chasing us down every hallway, i’ve been mauled by dogs like six times, i found a note that was like “they put a new creature in here. It’s kind of a gorilla” and i haven’t seen THAT yet, i had to kill a bee with a gun, and these guys are like “hmm something‘s weird about this place…”

(i think ttpd is phenomenal and that album was also a blatant money grab so i feel like the lesson here is less “no good art comes from greed” and more “no good art comes from having nothing to say”)

which is like, if that’s what you want to do then whatever, but if you are demanding to be respected as a Serious Songwriter and not just another vapid pop girlie, you’re undercutting yourself by leaning on memes that have already passed their expiration date

i appreciate how much attention this review gives to my main gripe with the album: its overreliance on stock internet phrases. stuff like “girlbossed too close to the sun” and the eldest daughter meme are such lazy references, made for people to point and go “ooh i know that tiktok!”
