“Monied interests” “public integrity” = oxymoron
menoplausible.bsky.social
“But the Centre for Public Integrity’s executive director, Catherine Williams, said the club offered “an invaluable opportunity for monied interests to build relationships with members of parliament and their staff”.
Why so important that ‘monied interests’ get that opportunity? How do WE get it?

So that's how the Australian Parliament rewards a Senator with integrity and the guts to let us know how compromised things can be there. Pitiful. @davidpocock.bsky.social , thank you for all you do.

Still picking oranges and they are blooming furiously. Glorious scent. They need to be culled a bit this year. 🌱
Bucket half full of small and large oranges. Tree is so spiky I’m cut and bleeding? I cut off several branches laden with waxy sweet smelling white blooms and buds.

ASIC’s Sarah Court says they could’ve fined ANZ over their ‘grubby’ misconduct into the Billions, but didn’t coz it’s “so high”, it’s “almost meaningless”🤔
McKim “it’s interesting words to use, ‘almost meaningless’…some might argue that $240mill is pretty meaningless to ANZ”💥 #Estimates

Ed Husic, Labor MP, made some great points on Afternoon Briefing yesterday.

"The reason why prices are so high is because we export a phenomenal amount of gas."

We can remedy supply constraints without opening new gas projects by diverting uncontracted gas to the domestic market.

I'm no gardener but I have a friend who loves gardening. Months ago we bought this plant because there's one across the road that I love. We weren't sure if it would like the position. I think it's safe to say that it loves it! #FlowerSky #Spring
A plant with gorgeous vivid purple flowers. I'm so sorry I don't know the name of it but it's really beautiful!

If you can’t get gas exporters to pay any tax @albomp.bsky.social how about getting them to contribute a couple of billion towards our rising insurance costs for the problem they’re contributing to?

Marguerite daisies in the pink.
🌱
Pale and brighter pink daisy flowers. Some are plush double petalled, others simpler daisy shapes with yellow centres yet they are all from the same cloned bush.

The wildflowers at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park were stunning - especially the massive carpets of these. Now, I don't know much about plants, but I believe these are a native plant called pig face. There were lots!

Just In case you thought Optis actually gave a fk. We lost ALL service in the cyclone when the power failed because the back up batteries weren't maintained. And I'm willing to bet they still don't work.

So - let me get this straight…

They’ll ban social media for under 16s even though most experts say it WON’T work

But they won’t ban gambling advertising & other key recommendations even though most experts say it WILL work

What? #4corners #auspol

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
