Psychologically healthy people tend to react with instinctive sympathy for the person being abused, but there are a lot of small, weak folks who instead identify with the abuser, and feel powerful for a few seconds imagining themselves in those jackboots.

Federal health employees are being fired as the White House makes good on a promise to terminate federal employees en masse as the second week of the government shutdown drags to a close.

An HHS spokesperson on Friday confirmed to STAT that the firings, known as reductions in force, had hit the department, but did not specify which agencies were affected.

Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.
