The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

I shouldn’t be surprised and yet this one caught me off guard. WTF.
In addition to this administration trying to kill kids, and they're also coming for our binders? OUR BINDERS.

I have some, uh, epistemological questions
Did you know that from tomorrow, Qualtrics is offering synthetic panels (AI-generated participants)?

Follow me down a rabbit hole I'm calling "doing science is tough and I'm so busy, can't we just make up participants?"

I’m no Kieran Healy, but my book also sold more copies than Olivia Nuzzi’s, and it contains useful info on sexual behaviour that will not make you want to claw your eyes out.
My Data Visualization book sold more copies than this in its first week and is also better-written.
Yikes!

i’m genuinely so convinced all of this has been a planned operation by the student and her mother (who is commenting on this publicly, and associated closely with the republican party), and big far right propaganda account going all in on it. this is designed to oust trans people from public life

Texas A&M, Indiana University, and now University of Oklahoma. Are no university administrators willing to stand up to this coordinated wave of anti-trans bullying?

We are currently in a politics of schoolyard bullying, and the way out is to come together to stand up to the bullies. It’s really not that complicated.

That those hand-wringing about the lack of research on treatment for trans kids want to stop research on trans kids really gives the game away, doesn’t it?
The subtext to outrage over a clinical trial to get more data on puberty blockers for GAC is that people being trans is an adverse outcome to these people.

You can't say there isn't enough clinical trial evidence and then say we shouldn't do clinical trials.
