As a recognised refugee pointed out of me when this was first mooted, this makes #Cyprus more attractive, as asylum-seekers will have some hope of ending up in mainland Europe instead of being stranded on this little island.
Asylum seekers reaching Europe's shores will start being relocated to other EU states from 12 June next year. Interior ministers agreed that at least 21,000 people should be relocated — short of the European Commission's 30,000 initial figure.

Does anyone know how to get back your @name.com subscription? I missed the deadline coz I was sick but if I plug in the email address or the domain name that I paid for to try and reset the password I get nothing in my inbox. So I am stuck in the circle of doom.

Playing the "Good/bad migrant line helps spread further division and racism.

As @migrantvoice.bsky.social points out in this piece "People do not check what job someone has, or how they arrived, before attacking them".

Labour knows this and just carries on.

I will not take any lectures on civilisation from a country that has the highest homicide rate in the industrialised world and the fewest doctors per thousand of population of any OECD country.
US government adopted the far-right Great Replacement myth and is now demanding NATO countries to dismantle the EU and the European project. They themselves frame it as a binary choice. Essentially the end of NATO as we know it.

The headline, the main takeaway from a European viewpoint is this:

The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a sppech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists.

Thomas Mann’s books fall out of copyright (UK/EU) next month, which means - new editions and translations!

Here are two from Pushkin Press: Death in Venice, and three stories (Tonio Kröger, Disorder and Early Sorrow, and Mario and the Magician). All translated by Lesley Chamberlain.

I see Space Karen wants to abolish the EU because he got fined for breaking the law. Clearly the EU is too big to buy – so he wants to break us up into pieces that aren’t.
Is ‘abolish the EU’ the new ‘defund the police’?
