This is a very important legal case, whereby the enforcement of equal human rights for trans ppl, ruled by the European Court of Human Rights, is actually carried out by the British govt. Having not done so, as legally required, brings the British state into disrepute, & undermines human rights.

The Referendum option read “… Leave the European Union”.

At 2300 UT on 31 January 2020 (more than 5 years and 8 months ago) the UK left the European Union.

There were many millions of witnesses to this event. It is a fait accompli.

Hard *is* what’s needed. The English (especially) need to be shaken vigorously to rid us of the crust of complacency, entitlement and post-Empire nostalgia that will sink the country otherwise.

There’s an appetite for authenticity generally. It’s why, for example, generative AI is already doomed. It’s why suppression of gender expression is also doomed.

And it’s why reformistas are definitely not the only ones able to say what they think.

Everybody knows you can’t just ‘join’, no more than ‘just rejoin’ or ‘reverse Brexit’.

But what is doable and sayable if you have the guts and the ‘patriotism’ to do it right now is:

• acknowledge and demonstrate the damage Brexit has done

• announce a new direction of travel toward Europe
