Got added to a starter pack so my follower count jumped

Hello! The starter pack was about cargo bikes! I have a cargo bike!

When not making bad jokes on the Internet, I post about bike lanes & transit in LA, and about transit in the US generally

Also movies but those are long posts and I'm lazy
"Especially important is the warning to avoid conversation with the demon. We may ask what is relevant, but anything beyond that is dangerous." - Father Merrin, The Exorcist (1973)
Hill House really is singular. And my goodness, episode 5, I get why you're posting now. Terrific stuff.

Not all protected bike lanes are created equal!
Old, wire thin man in a cowboy hat glaring at me over his toast: "I don't brunch care for you"

Me, flourishing, unbothered, wearing a large, inflatable syrup bottle costume while eating an omelette:
Brother I can’t brunch any other way
I simply cannot stop believing in California High Speed Rail. I'm going to build it myself if I have to.
what's everyone's favourite megaproject they want to see done. mine is finland-estonia tunnel
there are about 1000 reasons why a monorail won't work across the Santa Monica mountains, paralleling the 405, but chief amongst them, to my mind, is that heavy rail can, and a monorail cannot, provide a station directly on the UCLA campus

such a station would have *system*-wide highest ridership
this, crucially, is providing additional, vocal support for Alternatives 4 & 5 - *heavy rail* options (like the B and D Lines already in LA, or all of the NYC Subway)

as opposed to a monorail which still, still, somehow, looms as a (dwindling) possibility
and another thing: i'm off the record. please don't put in the newspaper that i'm on the record.

Gotta block ‘em all!
Here’s the one-stop shopping blocklist to disappear the Trump regime accounts that swarmed Bluesky yesterday.
Flush these turds HERE -

bsky.app/profile/did:...
LA Metro is putting bus lanes on Reseda, Florence, Sunset, Wilshire , Venice and La Brea, but over in NYC, 34th better fuckin watch it or they'll need more than a miracle
It is, in abstract, very funny that the US government, a power with reach and scope unmatched in the history of the world, is like "fuck that one street in particular."

In reality it's sad and foolish.
LMAO. Cartoonish.

What are they gonna do? Withhold funds and pitch a fit over congestion pricing? They've already done that!

DOT Secretary Duffy also runs NASA so he can fuck off to space I guess
However, Cuomo has Mamdani beat on the one issue that matters most to NYC voters:

Will he protect Gotham's precious supervillains by promising to find and kill the Batman?
It's ...funny that faith leaders are getting attacked?

But then he lands on "everyone in this chamber should respect cops" when he didn't even dispute the facts being asked?

Just wildly bad at managing a tone of conversation, you know? Even if these times were ordinary, what's the take away here?
I couldn't find the way to be concise about this earlier but it's a great example of how Johnson is bad at ordinary politics, as
a) it's not *super* clear he's joking, and also
b) he's answering in the context that ICE didn't cross the line when pepper balling a priest
Pictures can have a little motion, as a treat
god forbid a picture have a little motion
It's that time of year again: googling legitimate streaming options for the MLB post season, saying to myself "surely it can't be this bad, outrageous and poorly implemented," realizing my folly, closing my laptop, and contemplating listening on the radio
Cops today are told not to live in the same city that they work in.

Living in the *neighborhood* you patrol was seen as a *requirement*, originally. It was part of establishing the consent of the policed.

Otherwise what's the difference between cops and soldiers? Neither armed man is your neighbor
Police in London in the original version of the Metropolitan Police were not even allowed to vote for the first ~30 years of the institution, as (a) enforcing the law and (b) deciding what laws there were, even indirectly, were seen as a conflict of interest
Insisting on the marketplace of ideas but then getting mad when any idea goes out of business
this platform is silencing me instead of exchanging ideas, by which I meant exchanging their good ideas for my bad ideas and not criticizing me for them in any way
turns out the people yearn for trains
Enter: The Mardi Gras Service. Trains twice daily between New Orleans, LA and Mobile, AL. Service began 2 months ago.

But this is an entirely different region of the country, with different needs, commuting patterns, expectations and socioeconomic variety. Could *they* also want trains?

Let's see:
this is somehow still a success to me: ridership, even in the face of functionally turning customers away, is high. Which means customers who get turned away *keep coming back*.

Anyway, it'd be wild if there was other evidence that intercity train service is popular even outside the east coast.
wildly, ridership is 15% down - because in March of this year, Amtrak pulled some very old train carriages out of service but didn't replace them, so the same number of *trains* are running (in most places) but with fewer train cars per locomotive, and therefore fewer spots per departure
hey its been a minute since this California train nerd posted about the Borealis, a train running between Chicago, IL and St Paul, MN. It debuted in May 2024 and ridership was v high. But now that the novelty's worn off.....

it's hitting a 91% load factor (a seat has a person on it 91% of the time)
Amtrak Ridership August 2025: Borealis hits 91% load factor
Amtrak released August 2025 route results on September 26, 2025. Hiawatha continued a summer pattern of great cost recovery and high ridership: 61,800 passengers in August (up 6% from 2024) 78% cos…
