Coyote on the bird walk yesterday. I'll have to post his nemesis later today... roadrunner. #PalmSpringsCA #Nature #Photography
Standing behind a pile of dead branches is a coyote in profile. S/he looks directly at the camera with ears facing us. Body is tan and light brown with some gray highlights on the back and face. Some brown and green desert shrubs seen in the background.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

Best advice you will hear all day:
If you owe money to anyone and trying to solve your account say:
"Is there ANYTHING I can do to lower this total?"
"Do I qualify for ANYTHING that can lower this total?"
Even IRS will remove penalty fees! Credit cards/accounts add fees they must remove if asked.

Meep, Meep!! As promised here is the greater roadrunner from yesterday. S/he is nowhere near the coyote pictured earlier. 😜
Roadrunner standing on a small rise in the sand facing us. S/he is distracted by something to our left. The crest is up, and the tail is raised. The baby blue/white/red eye stripe is visible. The background is blurred out greenery.

Marlowe by the fire. The indigo planted in containers is in for the night, and geranium my parents dug up from outside, now that frost is coming.

#October #autumn
A large, tri-colored dog sleeping in front of a red woodstove with a fire burning inside it. My hand holding indigo flowers. I grow some in containers to get seeds for next year. The small flowes are white, and the leaves are bright green. Two pots of geraniums on a wooden table. There are 2 different shades of pink blossoms.

The Palmdale Road Cut on Hwy 14 in Southern California is a 90-foot slice through swirling sediments that have spent millions of years being squeezed and twisted by the San Andreas fault. Some say that this view of the fault is one of the best in all of California.

Through the Arch of Legends

Remains at the Island fortress, Tintagel Castle, long associated with the legend of King Arthur (more in Alt Text)

For this week’s #PalacesAndGardens theme #Myth&Legend
#Cornwall
#EastCoastKin
A weathered stone archway from the ruins of Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, England, frames a view of the deep blue sea and a winding cobblestone path under a bright blue sky.

According to Arthurian legend, Tintagel Castle, perched dramatically on Cornwall’s rugged coast, is the birthplace of King Arthur. The story goes that Uther Pendragon, King of Britain, fell deeply in love with Igraine, the wife of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall. With the help of the wizard Merlin, Uther was magically transformed to resemble Igraine’s husband and gained entry to Tintagel Castle. That night, Arthur was conceived, marking the beginning of one of Britain’s greatest legends.

Centuries of myth and storytelling have woven Tintagel into the heart of Arthurian lore - a place where magic, destiny, and the sea itself seem intertwined. The ruins seen today, overlooking the vast Atlantic, evoke the sense that this is where myth touches the edge of history.

The chestnuts are falling off the tree. Now, it's a race between humans and squirrels to grab the nuts from their vicious burrs. You need to wear thorn resistant shoes to walk in that mess.

Three glossy chestnut tree leaves rest on top of a small pile of prickly chestnut burrs. The leaves are lanceolate, strongly dentate, with well marked veins. They are in various stages of transition from green to yellow. The burrs are golden brown with long, sharp prickles. They are slightly open at the top, with a glimpse of the mahogany colored nuts within. The burrs are resting on top of withered brown leaves and twigs.
