A reminder that before Trump and then both parties turned "fake news" into a term of dismissiveness, it stemmed from dummy websites made in 2016 to look like real ABC or CNN pages meant to fool readers and spread false info. That technique sadly still lives on.
In the wake of the tragedy in Australia today, someone took the time to create a fake news website and made up a white “IT professional” named "Edward Crabtree" and claimed he stopped the Bondi shooting.
