Being right is necessary but not sufficient.
I'm gonna be pretty mad if the Democrats, having been dealt a hand that is way better in terms of public opinion than the Weimar Social Democrats, fuck it up just as badly.

"The children’s mother called the school early Thursday to tell them she’d been detained and asked school leaders to bring the kids to her at the Whipple Federal Building ... because there were no family members ... to care for them.

“We had to deliver them to a detention center,” Kuhlman said.

There is no end to his use of the office of the presidency for self-enrichment—and every act of self-enrichment is an impeachable offense.
President Trump has filed a lawsuit against the IRS, in which he demands that the IRS, which he as president controls, pay him $10 billion.

California's main electricity grid (CAISO) has released greenhouse gas emission numbers for 2025. Emissions last year were ~46% lower than 2014, and ~8.5% lower than 2024. That's the 4th largest year-on-year reduction in the charts.

"Who's city is it Chief?
Bovino: "It's our fucking city."

And that, in a nutshell, is the problem. It is not a democracy when men with guns and uniforms believe they have more control over a city than its residents.

Indeed, Anne Frank was a teenager who was culturally Dutch, having moved here at age 4, but was not a citizen. For Americans asking what they would do for a non-citizen child facing deportation to an unsafe country they never knew, there is a lot to think about here.

I know all eyes are on Minneapolis, but there's a fast-approaching nightmare in Springfield, Ohio.

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

Right wing lack of empathy is at root a skill issue: the inability to understand or imagine why people might think or feel differently than they do.

By contrast, we who saw this wave of fascism coming understand how malleable the human mind is, and exactly why the fascists think differently.
James O’Keefe responds to a comment

“Figured they (ICE protesters) were being paid…”

O’Keefe:

“No, it's more terrifying than that. It's not transactional.

They actually believe in their cause.

That truth is going to be hard for most people to understand or accept.”

This lets you know that a demand for body cams is USELESS and in fact just a way to give more money to the killers.

going further, currently America is an example to the world of how a democracy can fall apart.

i’m hopeful that through resistance, we can be an example of how democracy can be regained.

but there’s a really long road ahead.
This is a terrific piece of rhetorical construction that also happens to be a very good point. A lot of us have been heartened by the courage and integrity so many Minnesotans have shown over this past week, in the face of intimidation and spiteful violence.

For any elected official who needs to hear this, I impart a lesson learned from the NFL:

When the other team is tired and on the back foot, you don’t call a timeout so they can catch their breath. You grind their fucking face into the dirt until the final whistle blows and you’ve won the game.
