Growing up the hasbara narrative (basically 'nothing happened until we declared independence in May and then the Arab countries attacked us') was all I ever heard in both media and textbooks. Until the internet the facts were extremely hard to come by in the US, unless you knew Palestinians.

After reading through some of the replies I've decided to like your hot take. But I have to add that I'm equally concerned, if not moreso, about leading liberal-to-left figures acceding to authoritarianism by essentially failing to view what's happening through a moral lens at all.

The caiso emissions reports are a good rough proxy for how we've been doing. They include emissions from imports and some 'renewables' (biomass, biogass), but the overwhelming portion is nat gas.

Gas will go to zero first in the spring, when load is low because far less air conditioning load is needed. (In some areas of the state more transmission may be needed). May, April, March in that order. Summer will probably take another decade.
