So grateful to #TheFriendsofSmileyPublicLibrary, @typeeighteenbooks.bsky.social (w/o a publisher, no book!), and @frugalfrigate.bsky.social for a wonderful book launch event on Feb. 26. Between 40-50 people came and books for sale sold out!

I understand that without control of the House or Senate Democrats have very little ability to by themselves prevent the dangerous cruelty Trump is unleashing around the world. I would however like to request that every Democrat scream at the top of their lungs every time they’re on TV

I think the Greenland threat is a troll. I think.

But it would sure be nice for some senators and GOP house members to speak up now and make it clear that an attack on a nato ally would lead to removal from office

The GOP didn't have the votes for many years but that didn't stop them from pulling out every procedural trick possible while screaming at Dems on TV. And now they're in charge.
Lot of people yelling recently "but we don't have the votes!" True! That doesn't mean "immediately quit." (Also not what propter is saying here, to be clear.) It means create a spectacle, make things cause celebres, make the Republican position untenable.

Create bargaining position and force votes.

Minnesota has to come first - always.

Today, I’m proud of the work we’ve done to make Minnesota the best place to live and raise kids.

I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work.

Precisely. This isn’t about Kelly as if they expect it to have any effect on him or other members of Congress. It’s about using his prominence to make an example of what they can and will do to people vastly less powerful and secure.
This is designed to have a chilling effect on all retired service members. The message is that if you speak out, you risk your retirement pay.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, could you please establish an official NYC Mayor account on Bluesky and post everything your office is currently posting on X over here?

And please remove all city accounts from X, which has become a CSAM creation and distribution site?

No money for Musk, ever, please.

Not Congress, not the American people, but the oil companies.

This is Trump’s billionaires first agenda.
Reporter: Did you speak with the oil companies before the operation? Did you tip them off?

Trump: Before and after. They want to go in and they’re going to do a great job.

It’s easy in these moments to get exasperated by the UN, but the Charter does two key things that have helped define the post-1945 world: it outlaws the use of aggressive warfare as a tool for remaking international order, and it underwrites postcolonial sovereignty. US actions this week breach both

The Epstein Files Transparency Act is a law, passed by Congress on November 19 with an overwhelming vote. Complying with it was not optional. The Department of Justice did not comply.

Gave me chills.

This event drew 3,100 people. Hundreds stayed all 25 hours. And it’s free! Mark your calendar for January 9 & 10, 2027.

My position on impeachment is the same as it was six months ago: Impeachment is first about driving public attention to Trump’s crimes and corruption.

Democrats should introduce impeachment articles and force votes to boost their parallel media effort.

Performative public investigations matter.
Why push for impeachment?

Because politics is an exercise in moving public opinion as much as counting votes in the senate.

The Jan 6 Hearings were not a criminal proceeding against Trump that would end in jail, but they focused public attention.

This piece from the Kyiv Post reminds us of a few basic & fundamental things. Namely, Putin’s famigerato (infamous) army has been trying to conquer #Ukraine for almost 4 years now and has only managed to deplete their resources and damage their own economy.

The idea that Rubio is in it to take down Cuba, Miller is in it for the aspects of war that would allow him more latitude to terrorize citizens at home, and Hegseth is in it for the masculinity bonus, while persuading Trump with oil, appeals to me and accounts for most of this. Also Trump's pique.

It's kind of insane how the administration and its compliant media sold the casual news consumer the notion that regime change had happened in Caracas, and that the US was going to run the country. And we know this is very much not the case. This is called propaganda.

London spent at least 3 centuries building the largest Empire in human history, with informal hegemony over much of the Middle East and South America. It took about 3 decades for this to seriously unravel once local populations collectively decided to get the British out.
People always seem to forget that hegemony, real, actual, serious hegemony requires discursive and normative buy-in from a critical mass of the populace under its nominal control.
