The last of Fonda Lee's Green Bone Saga came out 4 years ago (...just squeezing in) and that's the best comp I can think of in terms of urban-set fantasy with politics/factions and cool magic. Ooh, definitely also consider The Angel of the Crows by Katherine Addison.

the best gay book for spooky season is The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal by KJ Charles, which opens with the sexiest ghost story imaginable, and improbably turns into a gorgeous multidecade love story (with lots of ghosts and monsters)
