Drivers, esp drivers of large trucks, put pedestrians & people on bicycles in harm's way when they block bike lanes and crosswalks. The City needs to develop a real plan for when & where commercial trucks may conduct deliveries. At minimum though citizens should be able to easily report violations.

“When curb space is tight, even well-intentioned drivers can struggle to locate legitimate, legal loading zones,” Harris told the traffic safety committee Wednesday.

THEN MAKE MORE LEGAL LOADING ZONES

Might just risk injury and bike tomorrow. My cat sitting visits are taking so much longer relying on the CTA. Jfc.

Just saw a mother with several small children and a stroller struggling to get through the snow.

If we were to #PlowTheSidewalks it would benefit everyone, no matter how they get around.
So many haters have told us it would never snow again and that we were fighting a fool’s errand…

Kids don't always want to be on screens, they just need spaces and places to live, grow and play independently.

Anyone know if Chicago has a program for landlords to receive city funding for rehabbing their building in exchange for the landlord not raising the rent for a set period of time?

There was a video that came up in my YouTube algorithm and I'm struggling to find it.
It was about more urban transport being done by bike. It's a new video. Less than a week old
I thought it was a City Nerd video but I don't see it on his page. Can my fellow urbanists help? 🥺

CDOT finally installed a protected intersection — the gold standard for bike and pedestrian safety — and Ald. Pat Dowell is making them tear it out and install “mixing zones” where cars ram into bikes, causing injuries and deaths.
Ald. Dowell is forcing CDOT to tear out portions of already installed bike lane protection on 18th, including Chicago's first protected intersection.

Have you played, "Guess the minimum parking requirement for an elementary school"?

This game looks like so much fun! 😀
parking mandates are ridiculous, continued:

it looks like no city in Illinois can agree on the best way to calculate how much parking an elementary school should provide

Jane made this list showing 20 municipalities with 20 different parking mandate methods

Nothing like a proposal for a modest amount of lower-income housing nearby to find out who your neighbors are.

Unsurprisingly the Clark bike lane from Devon to Ashland is basically impassable due to snow. Really wish Chicago cared as much about about winter bike lane maintenance as they do clearing the road for cars

Just witnessed a driver run through THREE red lights along Sheridan. It's going to be really hard to convince me we don't need ticketing capabilities on every traffic light.

Special fuck you to the alder who did some terrible "back of the napkin" math. Stop ruining our lives!!!!
