Is this a football metaphor? If so, which 40 yards are we talking about?
Bari Weiss says she wants to use her new perch at CBS News to “redraw the lines of what falls in the 40 yards of acceptable debate” in American political and cultural life. She says the aim is to sideline voices like Hasan Piker, Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes, and elevate “charismatic”...

No cannon for that EMU touchdown? I think it is consistent with the City of Ypsilanti's Noise Ordinances that they would stop blasting the cannon after 10p

The EMU fight song was composed in 1991 but sounds like it was composed in 1891 because college football fight songs are designed to reify problematic and anti-Black musical aesthetics from the late 19th/early 20th centuries

I think Vicente Lusitano's biography, as far as we know it, would make a very compelling film

The debate win against Nicola Vicentino could happen earlier than expected because the next eight years or so are thrilling with VL's conversion to protestantism and departure from Italy altogether
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

New York City helped my mother become the artist she is today. The next generation deserves a City Hall that lifts up tomorrow's artists as well.

I have heard some similar critiques about the American classical music industry, that its narrow and interrmitent interest in music by Black composers prefers narratives of racial trauma and oppression over anything else
Hollywood loves our trauma. Black actors are more likely to win awards when playing roles tied to slavery, servitude, or trauma.

Lupita Nyong’o opens up about what happened after her Oscar win. Hollywood kept offering her more parts as an enslaved woman, pushing the same stereotype again and again.
